Mikayla POV
"Ms. Morris, do you have the Nadolski file?", Susie asked.
"We're working with German people now?", I responded, as I searched for the file.
"Well, you know that we do international, so yeah. I think it's awesome!"
"I'm sure you do", I muttered.
"I just love your accent. I've always been amazed with British people. They're absolutely fascinating".
"Thanks, Susie".
Kaulin said that I would get used to her cheeriness, but I hadn't. She was such a positive person. I admired that, but it was annoying at the same time.
"Here you go".
I handed her the file. she flashed a smile and walked out.
"Still not used to it?", a voice asked walking into my office.
"Is it that obvious?"
"Just a tad. But, at least she doesn't notice it. What are you doing?"
"Working", I said, dryly, "shouldn't you be doing the same?"
"Nope. I'm done, actually".
My mouth fell open. We had both fallen behind ever since my incident, and he had more work than I did. How could he be done already?
"How is that possible?"
He shrugged and sat in the nearest chair.
"What was your most recent assignment?"
"Statistical analysis for the Smith file".
"What did it come out to?"
"(sin π/2)(26 - 3(√-169)/√-1. The answer was -13. Once I cross-referenced it, it wasn't that bad".
Cross referenced? I hadn't even thought of that. Maybe that would help me get done quicker.
"Do you need any help?"
He could tell that I was deep in thought and very busy. But, I was also stubborn.
"Nope. I'm good. Thanks".
He smirked, and I could tell he knew I was lying.
"Mikayla, you look exhausted. Let me help you".
"No. Really, I'm fine. I should be done by the end of today".
Lie.
"Are you sure?"
No.
"Yes. Thanks, though".
"Yeah, no problem. I'll see you later, Kay".
He walked out, but he had a smile on his face. I wouldn't give him the satisfaction of the fact that he was smarter than me. I would finish this by myself.
When I got home, it was 2 in the morning, and I still wasn't done. Kaulin hung around to keep asking me if I needed help, and I kept declining. He thought he would break me, but he hadn't. I was on my 3rd cup of coffee when my phone rang.
"Hello", I answered.
"Hey, babe. I got worried when you didn't call. How are you?"
"I'm fine", I yawned, "Sorry. I just got off of work".
"Really? Isn't it like 2 there?"
"It definitely is".
"Are you that busy?", he asked.
I could hear the worry in his voice, but I didn't have time to dwell on it.
