"Why didn't you come out this morning?" Scott said sounding upset. He was already tired of the same routine. Waking up and having to look for Mitch but failing. He never even got the chance to meet with Scott's father even though he wanted to. He just loved the night and he didn't like to be discovered. "It's been three months of this. We only have one weekend left."
"One weekend? How long is that."
"Three days." Mitch got sad all of the sudden. He didn't want Scott to leave.
"S-stay here please, don't leave!"
"I can't stay. Believe me, I would love to stay here with you and share stories about stars, but I can't. I have school and family. And not to mention my friends."
"I'm your friend."
"You're different."
"Different how?"
"You don't go to school with me, you don't live near me, and I'm pretty sure you don't even celebrate the holidays I do."
Mitch was upset at the fact that their lives were so different. "Will you be coming back soon?" He asked almost crying.
"I will. I promise." Mitch held his hand and played with their fingers putting his head on his shoulder.
"Can you sing me a lullaby?" He asked making Scott smile.
You won't need me forever
But I'll still be here
For we all have our nightmares
Even me, my dear
From now on, if you need me
You can sing this song
There's a light in the hallway
Burning all night longSo count your blessings every day
It makes the monsters go away
And everything will be okay
You are not alone
You are right at home
Goodnight, goodnight
Goodnight, goodnight----
"Happy birthday Mitch!" Scott said bringing him a small cake that he bought himself with his piggy bank money specially for Mitch with the number 12 in it. "It's been four years since we met."
"Indeed it has." Mitch said smiling at his friend's gesture. "I love what you got me. Even though I don't know what it is."
"Is a cake. Take a bite, you'll love it."
"If you say so." He said with uncertainty taking the cake and taking a bite. He was satisfied with its taste. "This is amazing!"
"I knew you'd like it." He said as he smiled. Mitch took the rest of the cake and ate it with joy making Scott laugh. "Don't rush, just enjoy it."
"All I eat is fruits and vegetables. And sometimes fish." No wonder he was so skinny, Scott thought before smiling letting the boy eat his cake. Just as soon as he finished they looked up at the stars once again. "How long are you staying?"
"Two more months." Scott said looking at Mitch who's sight was still towards the stars in the sky. He looked beautiful. "Mitch."
"Yes Scotland?" Mitch said looking at him at last.
"What did you mean a few years ago when you said you've never met people?" That's question made Mitch nervous. "Mitch, tell me."
"I'm not like you Scott. You were born probably different than I." Scott was confused. He thought Mitch wasn't being clear about his response. Or maybe he just didn't understand his question.
"I don't understand." He said frowning. Mitch gave out a sight before standing up and picking up Scott with him leading him to the deepest part of the woods far from the lake near the mountain where he lived. Then he saw little stars shinning on their way. Scott couldn't believe his eyes, they were beautiful. "Are these your friends?" Scott asked. Mitch nodded smiling still nervous to tell Scott what he wanted to tell him.
