College

It was almost the end of my second year of college. I couldn't believe I had only two more years left to become a full musician and music teacher! I had already recorded my first album with the help of my friends Kirstie, Kevin and Avi. They were always by my side. Kirstie was more of a childhood friend whom I've met ever since I was 8. We met in the second grade in a playground. She was playing hide and seek with her friends and I was just reading. I've always loved reading. But then she interrupted me and told me to have fun because, well, it was a playground after all. And I was just a child. She basically helped me not be a nerd. But now we're music nerds, so I guess I haven't made any progress since then.

"So I was thinking, maybe we should do a 'Wizard of O' medley." She said as we all walked towards campus. It was nice and warm, but the wind made the air feel fresh as we sat down in a huge blanket with our lunches.

"That sound great, will there be costumes?" I asked. She thought about it for a second after taking a bite of her cheese sandwich as she made a sound like she had an idea.

"We can all wear costumes! I could be Dorothy, Scott could be the puppet-"

"Scarecrow-"

"Avi can be the lion, and Kevin will be my Toto!" She said ignoring my side comment. We all smiled and nodded in agreement. "And since we're also planning to have a party by next week but Mr.Anderson says he doesn't have enough money to pay for damages, I'll make cupcakes and they can pay $10 for the show and $3 for the cupcakes!"

"And we can put fliers to tell people we'll be having a fundraiser." Kevin said.

"These are all good ideas, but you guys are forgetting something." Avi said. "We still need a fifth member. Who's going to be the tenor?" He asked making me wonder. Tenor..

"Well set up auditions, then if we find someone in time, we'll do what has to be done!" Kirstie said.

"I can sing tenor." Kevin said. I've never really heard Kevin sing before, all he's ever done was beat box and play the cello for us. "That way we will have enough time to prepare."

"Okay, so we're booked! All we need is to do the arrangements, pick the songs we need to sing, I'll bake cupcakes, and Scott can make the fliers." She said as we all shared a smile and began to eat our lunch. When it came to working together, my friends were always good. There was never an argument between us. "Scott, sorry for not asking before but, how's your dad?"

"We don't quiet communicate anymore. I live in a different apartment."

"Maybe we should visit sometime. After the school year, which we only have three weeks left, yay!"

It was a nice thought to visit my dad, specially after all he's done for me. I missed his presence so much. "Yeah, you're right. But for the meantime, let's focus on ending the year."

"And we have those final exams coming too." Kevin said.

"Dammit Kevin. Can't you just live in the moment?" Avi said earning a smile from me and Kirstie.

"Hey Scott, aren't you turning 19 next week?" Kirstie asked.

"Oh yeah!" I said with excitement. The guys always had something for me on my birthdays, but they would usually never tell me. It was always a surprise. "Nothing special I guess." I joked as they rolled their eyes. Kevin suddenly stopped smiling when he saw someone coming our way.

"Hey, isn't that the guy that makes costumes for plays?"

"Yep. He's helping me with our medley plans." Kirstie saw as he waved at us.

"Hey I'm Mitchell. Call me Mitch." He said. He had brown hair, blue eyes, and freckles. Somehow his name reminds me of someone. Someone I've given my heart to, and left. The only one who's ever made me feel different.

"Are you sure?" Rigel asked, "I know you're already an adult but, you can't just... Leave." He said. I knew this was the right thing to do. I would try to find Scott and as soon as I do, I'll convince him to live with me. "I mean, he's still here when you sing the song."

I smirked, "I need him physically here Rigel. Deneb and Sirius will be here with you, you won't be alone."

"But is dangerous out there." He said sounding worried. Which is understandable. Rigel is my childhood friend and he cares a lot about me.

"I'll be fine, plus I've always wanted to see how the world was out there."

"But you don't even know where he is."

"I know he's still here. I just need someone to drive me to Arlington. Then from there I'll ask to see where the nearest college for music is, and register."

"Are you sure that'll work?" He asked as I answered with a nod and a smile. I was ready to leave the lake for the first time, and I wasn't afraid. Well, only a little. But it didn't matter, because I needed to see Scott.
