Recap of Chapter 11

Maria's P.O.V.

"Thanks, Elizabeth!" I yelled back, towards the kitchen, throwing the book bag over my shoulder.

"Do you want to talk about last night?" he asked, unsure.

I shook my head. Bless him, he didn't push further into the question.

I wanted to keep the reason a secret from him, though, he could it out very soon if I continued to have a night like that repeat itself, something I don't him to ever know...

Chapter 12

Alex's P.O.V.

I still couldn't get what had happened last night out of my mind. I had never seen her like that and I hoped to never see her like that ever again. Whatever had caused her to react like that had to be fixed. She would have to tell me, right?

I turned my head to where she was sitting, only to see her absorbed on everything we passed. That was what she normally looked like, peaceful, enjoying her surroundings, not afraid. At least that's what I thought she looked like, but every person had another side to themselves. Even the ones who seem innocent.

"How many more minutes till we're at school?" I heard her ask.

"Huh? Repeat that, can you? I wasn't paying much attention."

"I asked how many more minutes till we get to school?" she repeated.

"Not that much left. Probably five minutes," I guessed.

The rest of the ride we were both quiet, not in an awkward way, more in a calm way, you know?

The sun's rays were hitting the hood of my car, making everything around it turn a darker shade. I noticed her body posture turned stiff as soon as we passed the gates.

Everyone turned our direction, trying to see the person in the passenger seat. As strange as it sounded, I wanted no one to know it was her, Maria, who was sitting right next to me, in my car. I wanted to keep her all to myself, even if it sounded selfish.

I drove up to my regular parking spot. I turned off the car, receiving a last purr from it.

"I'll see you later okay?" she asked for the first time since we stepped in the school. She grabbed her book bag from the backseat.

I nodded watching her as she stepped out the door, stepping out myself.

"How'd it go last night! Get any action?" asked Brody, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively at me.
