My Boss

Chapter 9

"Are you okay?" I nodded and turned my head to the side, looking outside. The night was serene. Peaceful and calm. The thunder could be heard and it felt like it was about to rain.

My head was still feeling dizzy and a doctor said a shouldn't drive for a few days. I had a bruises on my neck from Andrew holds and on my cheek from the slap. My cheek was still burning. My neck was sore. My headache got even worse the it was before and I just wanted to sleep.

"Can I do something to help you?" I shook my head and sighed. "I'm okay I promise"

"You don't need to come to work tomorrow. Yes it is your first day, but you can stay home" I shook my head again and looked at him.

"I need to work. It keeps my mind busy and I'm starting something new. I have to learn so my mind will be even busier" I smiled and he smiled back. He looked sad. His hand was bleeding pretty bad and he looked exhausted even more than I was.

"We didn't talk about the work tonight, I completely forgot. What will my day look alike tomorrow?"

"Nothing special you will spend a day with me. I will show you a work I expect you to do and that's all. Don't worry about it" he picked my hand from my lap and brought it to his lips, giving it a kiss.

I looked outside again and few rain drops were falling down the window. Lightning light up the sky followed by the thunder. Everything looked so peaceful. I closed my eyes enjoying the sound of rain hitting the roof.

"We are here" Ross said and I opened my eyes.

"Yeah" I whispered and opened a door, walked out. I heard Ross door opened and closed as he walked to my side.

"If you need anything give me a call" I smiled at him and he smiled back. "Thank you Ross"

"Here you go" Ross friend said as handed me my car keys. "I parked there. I hope it's okay" I nodded.

"I'm Cody by the way. I wish we had met in better  circumstances" I shook his hand and smiled. "Nice meeting you Cody. Thank you for everything."

"You welcome. It's nice to see Ross happy again" I shrugged and looked down.

"I don't think is because of me" he tapped my shoulder and gave me a hug, as whispering in my ear. "He is a tough guy to handle, but believe me he likes you a lot and thank you for being you."

Cody smiled at me and turned around walking toward the car. "Good night Laura. I hope to see you anytime soon!" he yelled and sat in the car closing the door behind him. "What did he say to you?"

"Oh nothing just to take care" I smiled at Ross and he smiled back. "You should get inside. This few drops will become a pretty heavy rain in a second" he gave me a small kiss on the cheek and turned around.

He walked to his side of the car and looked at me again, as opening the door. "Good night Laura"

I waved goodbye and they drove away. I signed and looked at the light coming from my apartment. I was exhausted it was 1am in the morning and I had really long day. It felt like a whole month passed since I met Ross, but it was only second day that I knew him. Time was going by really slow.

I walked inside the building and pressed the button to call down elevator. My hands were still shaking and the scene from earlier was flashing in front of me.

I loved that man. He was my everything for 5 years and that is not something small. We promised each other forever and everything was perfect. But people change. He changed, I changed. It wasn't the same feeling with him as it was at the beginning. I was pushing him away and I pushed him into Rebecca arms. For some reason it was my fault too. I was procrastinating on breaking up with him.

I opened the door and walked in. I could hear multiple voices coming from living room. I took my shoes off and a jacket. I walked toward the living room and as reaching closer I could hear Jack voice calling my name.

"Laura look who's here!" Jack turned around and looked at me. "What happened to you?!"

He jumped from the couch and ran toward me. "Who the fuck did this to you?!"

"It okay Jack it doesn't hurt" he slowly ran his fingers against my cheek, making it to burn even more and me to hissed. "Who did this to you Laura?"

He asked calmly and I shrugged "I really don't want to talk about it. Not tonight" I looked past him and find aunt Jenna looking at me standing next to the couch.

"Aunt Jenna I thought you will come tomorrow" I ran into her arms and hugged her tightly.

"Spencer here gave me a ride, he's going to collage and asked me if I will join. David will come tomorrow night after work" I looked at the couch and there was setting brown hair man in late 30s. He had sharpe jawline, blue sparkling eyes suiting his hair damn well. He was simply dressed blue t-shirt and jeans. He was muscled and his t-shirt was tightly holding his biceps. He looked calm. For just looking at him you saw that he was a serious man. "What happened to you baby?"

I bite my lower lips, pulling my tears back and shook my head. "I'm okay Jenna. I really am. This will pass and will be just bad memory."

"Do you need anything?" I shook my head again and smiled. "No thank you."

She smiled and tucked the hair behind my ear. "I love you, you know that" I smiled at her and nodded.

"And who is this?"

"Oh silly me. I forgot to introduce you. Spencer this is my niece Laura, Laura this is my neighbour Spencer" aunt Jenna said and he was reaching toward me to shake my hand.

"It is nice to finally meet you. Your aunt talks a lot about you. I'm sorry about what happened to you. I hope you will get better soon" he shook my hand and smiled. His beautiful white teeth bright up the room. His smile was just to perfect. He was so perfect.

"Same way. Aunt Jenna talks about you a lot too and thank you, it means a lot. But sorry um you are going to collage?"

"Oh yeah, I'm collage professor"

"Oh sure, duh" I laughed and he smiled back at my awkward laugh.

"I really want to hang out with you guys, but I have work tomorrow and it's quite late. I'm going to sleep" aunt Jenna nodded and hugged me again. "Get rest sweetie we will talk tomorrow."

"And again it was nice to meet you Spencer" I shook his hand again and he smiled at me. "You too Laura"

"Good night guys"
