I step away from the door when I think about what I'm getting myself into. I can't help that I want to comfort her. He did something to her. Not only recently but something long ago. He did something that changed her and caused her to stay with him. After everything she's been through and still she is lead to this very moment in the supply closet of a hospital. He's not the one here crying. He's not the one serving community service and he's not the one whose career has fallen apart. But she's crying because she cares and she shouldn't care because he's a jerk, a total baastard. And he knows exactly what he's doing to her. He's won his little game and I can tell he thinks he has her in the palm of his hands.

I hear the door knob start to move around and I look down to see it rattling in place. I panic. I quickly walk down the hall, hoping she doesn't spot me when I hear the door open and close. I take the chance and look back at her walking the opposite direction. She has her head down, her feet dragging on the floor and her hair falling in front of her face. Her bag is in her arms as she walks into the elevator. I stand at the corner of the hall and I catch a glimpse of her puffy red eyes. For a moment we meet eyes but soon the elevator closes, cutting off our view.

....

After delivering the flowers, I'm on the first floor again, my eyes scanning the halls before making my way into the cafeteria. She's sitting at the corner of the seating area, scribbling in her little note pad, her dark, smooth hair pooling around the clean wooden table around her, covering most of her face. I walk into the area of the cafeteria where they have a whole menu of any food you can think of.

"Hello Kim, mango smoothie?"

"Hey Angie, and make it two please?" I reach into my wallet and take out a bill, reaching my hand out for her to take it

"No, no, no honey, your money is no good here." She turns on the blender and extends her arms, asking for a hug. I smile before walking around the table to give her a squeeze.

"How are you feeling?" She lets go of me and I watch as she adds several things into the blender before turning it on again.

"I'm fine, just a little headache. I'm sure your famous smoothies will make me feel better. They always do."

"Hun, you should go get this checked out. I'm more than sure Dr. P will agree with me." Her brows are pushed together and her still eyes are fixed on mine.

"No, no, I'm fine. I promise. No need to get Dr. P involved; he'll just make me take every x ray he can think of." I joke and she holds in a giggle, knowing very well that its true.

"We only care for you Kim. Here you go, two mango smoothies with whip cream on top. Have a nice day and go see Dr. P if these head aches continue. I mean it Kimberley Jane Walsh." I giggle at her use of my full name and take the smoothies in my hands.

"Okay okay bye Mother!" She laughs and I smile before walking back to the seating area.

She hasn't moved from the corner and I slowly walk up to the 4 chaired table. I sit opposite from her and she doesn't seem to notice me as she continues writing into her note pad. I push the smoothie towards her and she finally looks up. Her eyes still puffy and her cheeks wet with tears.

"Do you fancy a smoothie? These always cheer me up." My voice is closer to a whisper and I clear my throat a little, trying not to look too nervous about her reaction. She doesn't take the smoothie. Instead wiping her cheeks with the back of her hand and slouching back in her chair.

'Are you going to sell the story?"

"No." She smiles a little.

"Do you even know what I'm talking about?" I smile a bit too catching sight of her soft dimples.
