Chapter 8

"So I was thinking, You know how yesterday, we gave Nessa and Jacob the leading roles in Petter pan, maybe we can have Danny and Randi switch roles as pirates and the lost boys since we don't have enough peo-"

"Sarah, can we talk another time?"

"What, why? I thought the Fashion show finished half an hour ago?"

"Im not at the fashion show." She's crouched in the same position as before, her chin cupped in her hands, and her mind lost in space, looking for some kind of escape.

"Are you with a boy?" Sarah whispers through the speaker as if she were to be heard by anyone else but me.

"No! You weirdo, I'm with a friend. Can I just please call you back?" I try my best to be as hushed as possible; my voice barley audible above the harsh rain that still shook the car with anger.

"And this friend you speak of is more important then your best friend?" I can tell she just wants to be dramatic by the way her voice is suddenly of another nature. She's put an emphasis on 'best,' her animated tone granting her one of my famous eyes rolls that have been quite popular during these phone interruptions.

"Sarah, please. I'll call you when I get home."

"You're with one of your hospital friends aren't you."

"No, well, kinda, but it doesn't matter."

"Don't tell me. You're with Cheryl?! Why didn't you just say that in the first place! Let me talk to her!" I turn the opposite direction of Cheryl, my body scooting as far away as possible. I hear a giggle coming from behind me and my hot cheeks tell me how much I wish she didn't hear the girly squeals of my best friend.

"I'm hanging up now."

"Kimb-" I quickly hit the end button and turn off my phone. I feel her hand on my thigh and slowly turn around to face her soft adorable dimples that are barley little creases on the smooth skin of her cheeks. Her eyes are on mine and It feels like an eternity until she finally parts her lips to speak.

"Do you, maybe want to go for a drink? I'll take you home after."

"A drink? As in alcohol?" She giggles. Her voice soft yet addictive, and I'm not sure why I want to hear it again, even if it is because she's amused by my stupid questions.

"Yea you lemon, like at a bar? Better yet I know a better place. A bar is too risky." She leans toward the handle, pulling on it and pushing it open before she looks back at me for a moment.

"You coming? I'll drive." I smile as she makes her way to the drivers seat, shivering as the drops of water increase in violence. I run to the passenger side before she begins the car, slowly pulling out of the private parking and into the street.

"Do you know how to work the radio? I can never figure it out." She's not looking at me, her attention on the barley empty streets ahead of us. She suddenly turned into a long, lifeless road, The long road climbed the hills and the car climbed with it. Her car is .... Advanced? There's a button for everything. I search for the seat belt and put it on. My body jerks when the strap suddenly tightens around my chest without warning, her musical laughter filling the once empty space around us.

"I'm glad I can make you laugh." I say sarcastically as I pull on the strap. I move my feet and suddenly the seat begins violently shaking in place. My eyes widen and my heart skips several beats as I grip onto the jerking seat that seems to have a mind of its own.
