Chapter 7

First of all, I wanted to thank you guys so much for all the votes, reads, and comments. It means a lot to me. Anyways, I wanted to apologize for the VERY slow updates. School has been really time consuming and I haven't had much time to sit down at my laptop to write. I'm going to try and speed up the updates for this so you guys have more content to read but I can't make any promises. So with those things said in this horrendously long author note, I'll let you finally read the story! - Aubrey

Rick POV

Sat in front of me at the kitchen table was Piper. She slowly sipped on some orange juice that I poured for her previously. Her green eyes were puffy from the happy tears that were shed when she reunited with her brother. Piper was fixated on the orange juice. She kept swirling it around in her glass to avoid conversation. 

Finally breaking the awkward silence, I spoke up, "You're supposed to drink the juice, not watch it." Piper's eyes shot up and stared straight into mine. Her eyes narrowed and I knew I said something wrong. I opened my mouth to apologize, but she beat me to it.

"You're supposed to help people, not keep them as prisoners." she replied. I scoffed at her snarky remark which made her roll her eyes. 

"These people are my family. I need to keep them safe. I don't know you or trust you." I snapped back at her. The girl who was sat in front of me took a larger sip of her orange juice. 

She licked her lips and opened her mouth to say another sassy comment, but was stopped by a male scream coming from outside. Piper stood up instantly and bolted out the door. I ran after her. She was full on sprinting towards the direction the scream came from. Piper was headed right towards the shed.

Piper POV

I knew I would get in trouble for running off like this, but that scream could have been Hunter's. I heard Rick running after me, which only caused me to run harder. I made it to the shed and kicked open the door. In front of me was Hunter, who was passed out and beaten to a pulp. I looked over to see Shane looking at me with bloody fists. 

With no hesitation I ran at Shane. Taking him down to the ground with him pinned under me was easy, only because he was surprised. I began to punch his face and anywhere near it. I was beyond pissed. The large man underneath me threw me against the shelf of the shed, causing the corner of my head to hit a wooden shelf. I saw stars for a few seconds before I fell over on my side. I felt a very heavy blow in my abdomen from Shane's army boot. I gasped for air as the wind was knocked out of me. I clutched my stomach in pain. My head was pounding like a bitch and everything was fuzzy. 

Outside of the shed I heard yelling. It was an argument between Rick and Shane. After a few minutes, a very pissed of Rick entered the shed. The attractive man punched the side of the shed in anger. I coughed which made Rick's attention turn towards me. Rick huffed before he picked me up and carried me out of the shed, leaving Hunter behind once more.
