Piper's POV

I opened my eyes to a dark room with a few slits of light from wooden panels. I winced from the pain in both my head and leg. My arms were handcuffed to a pole behind me. I should not have trusted that redneck. I had that gut-wrenching feeling telling me not to trust him, but I did. Now I'm in this stupid mess. I tried to get out of the tough metal handcuffs that I was imprisoned in. I had worked at my cuffs for a long time until my wrists were bleeding. I groaned in pain and gave up, knowing I couldn't slip the handcuffs.

I looked around for another plan when I heard strange voices approaching the door. The door was opened and I closed my eyes from the sudden blinding light that filled the room I was sitting in. A man who looked not too much older than me crouched down at me with his hand held on his gun. I couldn't make out his face because my eyes weren't adjusted to the light yet.

"Where's your group?" the crouching man furiously barked at me. I noticed how he tilted his head slightly to the right.

"Like I told the guy who hit me over the head, I'm alone." I responded with more sass than I would have liked to. The man in front of me pulled out his gun and pressed it to my forehead. I felt my breath catch in my throat from total terror. I couldn't die now as I had something to live for; Hunter.

"You're going to look me in the eyes and tell me that you're alone. If I feel like you're lying, so help me god, I'll shoot you." he growled. This guy was no joke.

I looked up at my captor and studied his face. He had a sharp jawline that was coated with stubble. His stone cold appearance demanded answers from me . I looked up into his striking blue eyes and sighed, "I'm alone. I've been alone for awhile now. I'm no harm... I just need to find my brother."

His face softened slightly as he lowered his gun from my head. He looked me up and down and asked, "What's your name?"

"I'm Piper Holloway." I responded quietly. He nodded firmly.

"I'm Rick Grimes," he said in a calmer tone. Rick leaned over me and unlocked the steel handcuffs that I had previously tried to slip out of. "We have a man who can patch your leg up if you'd like." Rick proposed.

"If he has the time, that would be great. I don't want to be a burden on you and your people." I said cautiously. A small smile crept over Rick's face.

"It's no problem, trust me." Rick assured me. I nodded in response and grasped the wall behind me, attempting to stand up.

I groaned in pain. Everything in my body hurt as though I was run over by a bus. My attempt at standing was no good because I slid back down the wall. Rick held out both of his arms to help me up. I smiled up at him and grasped his arms and he pulled me up to my feet. I shifted my weight onto my good leg, still holding onto Rick's strong arms. He raised his eyebrow at me in concern.

"Can you even walk?" he questioned, eyeing my leg. Why was this man so worried about my leg? He hardly knew me.

"Yeah I'm fine, lead the way." I responded with a grin. He nodded slowly and led me outside of the small room I was kept in. The land outside was beautiful as though the apocalypse never hit this place. I finally felt safe.
