The Big, Bright Flag

   Walking through the hallways after class seems to always help me vent. I don't have that much friends that are close to my classroom so usually I walk alone. I was heading outside after school so I can maybe take a few photos. Once I reached outside, the sunshine had hit my skin and it felt so nice after sitting in a classroom for so long. There was way too much people so I decided to head for the area next to the dorms. Once I reached the empty lawn in front of the dorms, I set my bag on a bench. I heard yelling from the side of the building. I walked to the side of the building closely and saw David Madsen, the school security guard (or basically Chloe's step father), yelling at Vani Marsh. "What were you doing behind the dorms Vani?!", David yelled. "I'm sorry, I won't do it again!", Vani said softly. "Bullshit, you were supposed to be in class. Now get the fuck out of this area!", David said. I never knew David could be such a bitch to such a girl like Vani, after what happened. A couple of months ago,  Vani went to a party and got pretty wasted. And before you knew it, pictures and videos were being uploaded online. No one really knows who did it, but almost the whole school is blaming Nathan. Ever since, people have been calling her a slut and bullying her. After David walked away, Vani was left there crying. I ran up to her and hugged her. "I'm sorry Vani, he was being a real bitch to you.", I said, in hopes to comfort her. " I'm okay really", she said. "No you're not, I saw what happened. We need to tell someone." "No, it will make things worse. Please Max, can you just leave me be", she said. "Okay", I said hesitantly. I didn't want to bother her any more so I left. I looked at my watch which read, 3:14. I forgot, Mr. Jefferson wanted to talk to me about this contest after school. I picked up my bag and started for the classroom.

   I opened the door and saw Mr. Jefferson sitting on his desk. "Max, your late.", Mr. Jefferson said sternly. "Sorry, I forgot.", I said. " You always forget things. Anyways I need to talk to you about the contest, Max you need to participate. You're an amazing photographer and your work needs to be shown to the world." Mr. Jefferson kept nagging me about this stupid contest since he announced it. Basically, people take pictures based on a subject. The person who takes the best photo out of the whole entire school, gets to go to San Francisco and gets their photo featured on a wall in the convention where it's being held. "Besides, your work will be representing Arcadia Bay.", Mr. Jefferson said. "Right, even if I decided to, I know i'm going to forget and not give you a photo by Friday.", I said. "Max, just please participate. I know that people will love your work", Mr. Jefferson said. "Ugh, fine, I guess I can try", I said hesitantly just to make him happy. "There, there's the Max that I know.", Mr. Jefferson said all creepy. I hate him. He scares the crap out of me. I was telling the truth really. I will forget to send in a photo because i'm like that. And besides, I like taking pictures just for fun, not for some stupid contest. I walked out of the classroom and was heading to my dorm. In the hallway, I saw a booth that stated,"The End of the World Party". In curiosity, I walked up to the booth. "Max, didn't know you was interested in helping out," Sam said from the booth,"In order to help out though is that you have to join the Vortex Club. I wouldn't really do that considering Nathan and Victoria is in it though." I looked over to see Victoria walking towards me. "Max, don't even try to sign up. You wouldn't be cool enough and our representation would go down.", Victoria said. "I wasn't even gonna sign up anyways. I was just curious about this 'party'.", I said. "Well none of your business. I know you wouldn't come anyways, so just leave." I gave her a scowl and just walked away. I didn't even wanted to go anyways. I started walking towards the exit of the school so I can just go to my dorm and take a nap.

   After an attempt to take a map, I received a call from Chloe. I picked up my phone and started dialing. "Hello?", I said in a raspy voice."Hey, why haven't you picked up? Anyways, I was thinking about it, Nathan might have a few pieces of evidence on his phone considering what he did to Vani. We all know that he was the one that took pictures of Vani and shit. Maybe he did the same to Rachael.", Chloe said. "So basically your asking me to steal his phone from his dorm?",I said with instant regret in my mind. "Bingo, I knew you were always this smart. So, can you do that for me?" "Chloe, I-I don't know-" "C'mon, do it for me. Do it for Rachael.", Chloe said. I thought of Rachael and how important this was to her. I couldn't say no. "Fine....but, you owe me some Starbucks after.", I said. "Fine, whatever.", Chloe said. I hung up the phone. Great. Just great. I am literally the most stupidest person alive right now. I got up from bed and walked out the door.

   I think most of the boys around Nathan's dorm have football or water polo practice, so I think I'm good. Once I reached the boys dorm, I learned that Nathan's door is probably locked. Way to go. I turned the handle just incase I was wrong. Yep. Locked. I figured that Nathan had a window open since it was summer and the rooms' AC sucks so I went outside and to my surprise, it was! I jumped up from onto the ledge and climbed in. The first thing I saw, was a huge and bright flag that had stripes with the colors of the rainbow on it hanging on his closet door. Is that a gay pride flag? Is Nathan gay? What the fuck. Anyways...I looked around and found his phone on his desk. Huh, I'm surprised he never took it with him at football practice. I grabbed it and ran out the window. Since I'm super Max, I fell out the window and landed in a bunch of bushes. "What the hell?" I heard someone say. I looked up to find Chloe holding up two Starbucks drinks.  "Oh, hi...Chloe...", I said getting up off the ground and brushing myself off. "I can see that you did your job of getting Nathan's phone", Chloe said. "Yes, yes I did", I said. "Right we should head back to my dorm", I said.

   I sat down on my couch and pulled out Nathan's phone. I turned it on the fucker had a password on it. "Why? Just why?", I said. Chloe leaned over,"Shit".
