I pulled on my black cowgirl boots and admired myself in my body length mirror. I was dressed appropriately for the bar in dark blue skinny jeans and a loose baby blue top.
At least I wasn't giving the wrong impression. I hope...
At eight o'clock Brian showed up in front of my battered door. He politely knocked and waited for me to open it up for him.
I slowly opened the door and stood astonished at how handsome Brian looked in his faded blue jeans and a red checkered button up shirt. He had his boots on and the Stetson he never took off of his head.
"Well you look quite eye catching miss May." he complemented as he looked me over. I blushed profusely as I fidgeted with a fray on my shirts hem.
"Umm...thank you, you look dashing yourself." I drawled as I stepped out of the house and locked it up. As we descended the porch steps Thundercloud whinnied at us from the pasture, his whinny quickly followed by Wilbur's two mares, Blue-moon and Misty-lane.
"Where'd you get the horses?" Brian asked curiously as he squinted in the dark at them. Thundercloud snorted and reared then turned around and ran off with his mares.
"The stallion is Thundercloud, he showed up at my place a few days ago and after finding his owner and discovering that he didn't want Thunder back, I took him in. The mares belong to Wilbur, they're staying here for two weeks." I explained as Brian helped me into his truck. When he slid into the driver seat he gave me a slow smile.
"Tell me Wilbur at least paid for the breeding?" Brian asked as he started the truck and pulled out of the driveway. I threw him an incredulous look as I bit back a snarky reply.
"Yes he paid me." I stated firmly as I readjusted myself in the seat. Brian must have picked up on my edgy vibe and swung the conversation around to a new foal that was born on his ranch today.
"He's gonna be a strong fella when he's grown. Been thinking I might train him for stock herding." Brian commented about the foal. I nodded my head in thought and sighed in relief when Brian parked the his truck outside the bar.
The Bulls and the Broncs...
What a suiting name for a bar, I guess...
Brian opened my door and helped me out of the truck, catching me as I took a misstep and tumbled into his arms.He didn't comment about the incident and instead took hold of my hand as we walked into the bar, my heart fluttered at the contact and I tried hiding the smile creeping onto my face as best as I could.
Brian and I sat down at the bar and ordered ourselves ice cold beers. We chatted for a while, talking about our careers and such.
"What did you study again?" Brian asked as he sipped his second beer. I scratched my head in thought and then shrugged.
"English and an extra year in photography." I explained as I scanned the crowd in the bar. The bar was nearly full and the dance floor was packed.
"That's very interesting, what did you do up in New York then?" Brian queried. I smiled and shook my head in thought.
"Well I interned at a publishing company, but then I got the call from my gramps lawyer and now I'm here." I explained to him as I got up and held my hand out towards him. Brian grinned as he took hold of my hand and followed me onto the dance floor.
By the third song I felt my legs shaking from all the dancing. I was holding onto Brian while he swung us around, that's when I spotted Wilbur sitting at a table. He was looking in our direction and smiled when he realized that I had spotted him.
I tried making our departure off of the dance floor discreet, but Wilbur met us when we reached an open booth. I inwardly cringed when Brian's eyes landed on Wilbur, a disapproving look fleeted across both the men's faces before their manners stepped in and they greeted each other.
"Hey Wilbur, you here alone?" I questioned as I pulled him into a hug. When we pulled away Wilbur grinned and shook his head.
"Nope I'm here with the sexy Mixy." Wilbur draweled as he pulled a red haird woman tigtly to his side. The woman smiled broadly and then pecked him on the cheeck.
"Oh I like it when you call me sexy." She purred as she reached up and caressed her hand up his chest. My eyes shockingly followed her hand untill it cupped Wilburs chin and pulled his face down to hers only to plant a wet, sloppy kiss on his mouth that made me internally gag, although Wilbur didn't seem to mind and quickly forgot about me and Brian.
"Uh Brian can you take me home, I've got work tomorrow and I don't want to do it half good because I'm tired." I asked Brian as I turned away from Wilbur and the Mixy girl. Brian smiled as he nodded his head in agreement.
"Okay let's go."
