‘Ok what about this one.’ I say holding up a dress. Scott nods but there’s sweat beading on his brow. ‘Well?’ I say my hands on my hips. ‘What?’ he says his attention turns back to me. ‘Which dress for the summer solace?’ His eyes skim the 3 dresses. ‘That one.’ He says pointing to a light blue one shouldered dress. ‘Ok thanks, what time do you have to be home?’ my stomach growls and I keep my head down. He checks his watch. ‘I better go.’ He sighs ‘Ok see you tomorrow at school.’ He goes to the door and steps out. I wave and turn around shutting the door.
‘Ok I’m alone.’ I say into my phone I shut it and flit upstairs. Changing into a small black dress I sit on my bed. A minute later the bed sags and I look to my left to find James. ‘You know I do have a front door.’ I say looking at my hands. ‘You ready princess.’ I shake my head. ‘Don’t call me princess.’ I say getting up and dusting off my front. ‘Remind me again why we have to do this.’ I say facing him. ‘The council want to see you. Once you’ve been a vampire for three years they call you forward either to destroy you-‘I gulp ‘-Or to commend you.’ James was my tutor he taught me everything I know. As well as how to live among humans. James looks about 30 but I know he is around 300. Whereas I will forever look 13. He shakes his head sending his blond hair into a messy style.
He walks to the window and steps out he holds a hand out and I take it. We hop into the ground. My stomach grumbles again. ‘Do we need to make a stop?’ he says. I support myself against a tree and nod. I try to flit but don’t manage it. ‘The park?’ he suggests. The park was right next to my house. I stumble in and look around. James points to a drunk at the far end. I shake my head. ‘No’ I exclaim ‘Not a drunk.’ I finish. James laughs and leads me go where a middle aged man is sat at a bench. I nod and sneak up behind him. I extend my fangs and quickly drink. The man doesn’t even flinch as I drink. I stand up and wipe my mouth. ‘Finished?’ he asks. I nod ‘let’s go.’ He holds out his hand again and I take it.
As we reach the gate we slow to a walk. The gate opens automatically as we step through. If my heart still beat I’m sure it would be pounding in my chest. We step through the door and are handed red robes. Mine is too big and drapes on the floor. We step into the main foyer and I glance around. The walls are the original wood and are decorated with paintings that I don’t recognise. On the floor is an old carpet. The few pieces of furniture are obviously antiques.
After standing in the foyer for a few minutes a tall vampire dressed in a white shirt, waistcoat and black trousers joins us. ‘You may enter now’ he says no emotion portrayed in his voice. I follow him alone because James isn’t allowed in. I’m frisked then led into a large room. Behind the only desk in the room is a blond woman. She looks around 20. I curtsy. ‘Princess Sierra’ I say my head lowered. She steps out front behind her desk and flits to stand in front of me. Placing a finger under my chin she lifts my head. ‘Hello child. What is your name?’ I knew she already knew it but I answer anyway. ‘Cameron White.’ She claps her hands. ‘Oh good now what are we going to do with you?’ she asks looking around the room. The guide returns to the room carrying a tray with two glasses on. Offering one to each of us he leaves the room. Even without my vampire senses I can tell it isn’t wine. I sip it letting the liquid slide down my throat. ‘How old were you child when you were turned?’ I look back at Sierra who is now at her desk. ’13 ma’am’ I reply. She tuts and shakes her head. ‘Who was your Sire?’ honestly I had no Idea. ‘I do not know’ I say slowly. Seconds later she is directly in front of me holding my wrist to her lips. She drops it and as it falls I see the small cut seal. ‘Pablo’ she says ‘did your Sire give you a choice?’ I nod my head. ‘You may go.’ She dismisses me and I finish my drink. I walk out the room and back to James. He raises an eyebrow and I smile. He picks me up and whirls me around.
