As we walk to the office I put Jane between us. The air is thick with tension. Jane opens the door and lets us inside. I step in before the boy and stand beside a wall. ‘Who are you?’ the boy cracks first asking my name. ‘Cameron White’ I say flatly. Jane moves to a cabinet and brings out a flask. ‘Drink?’ she offers. I accept but the boy declines. Jane pours the contents of the flask into two glasses. I sip it slowly. ‘So who are you Mutt?’ I couldn’t resist the last bit but Jane grabs my arm. The boy takes no notice of the name and blinks at the contents of our glasses. ‘My name is Cole.’ He says though it sounds distant. ‘Cole why are you on our land?’ he snaps back to me. ‘My pack moved here.’ I glance at Jane who looks as shocked as I feel. ‘Did they know this was the home of the Aurora Mazul Coven’ Cole shrugs. ‘What is the name of your pack?’ Jane butts in. ‘ElmRidge Pack the alpha is Callum Morner.’ The pack had intruded on Vampire territory. ‘We need to tell Princess Sierra.’ I say bluntly. ‘Princess Sierra. The Princess Sierra?’ I nod. ‘She is your leader?’ I nod again. ‘I need to go tell Callum.’ he heads for the door but I slam him back up against a wall. ‘No we go to Princess Sierra first.’ Jane agrees. I phone James to make my excuse.
As we pull up to the court I blindfold Cole. James had called ahead so Sierra is expecting us. As we walk up to the gate James drops in beside us. Cole who was unblindfolded by then went to attack but I restrain him. He lets out a cry but then falls silent. We walk into the foyer and wait for admittance. The guide from yesterday comes and leads us to Sierra’s office. Sierra stands as we enter and everyone except Cole bows or curtsies. ‘Jane care to explain’ Princess Sierra says. ‘I think Cammie would be better.’ Jane says stepping back. Sierra turns to me. ‘Cammie?’ I look at Cole. ‘This is Cole a werewolf.’ She nods holding her nose at Cole’s stench. ‘Start from the beginning’ she commands. I nod ‘we were in science they were doing blood typing. I thought I could handle it I couldn’t. We went into the corridor. That’s when he turned up. Just walking down the hall. We talked I put him up against a wall. Then we went to Jane’s office. We talked again. Then when he tried to leave I pinned him again and brung him to you.’ Sierra flits and is in front of Cole. She places a finger under his chin as raises his chin. ‘Hello Cole.’ She says slowly. ‘Hello ma’am’ he mutters. ‘Which pack do you belong to?’ she asks him curiously. ‘ElmRidge pack my alpha is Callum Morner.’ Sierra turns and walks back to her desk. She writes something on a piece of paper. Then she goes behind the desk. She sits and brings out a piece of proper writing paper. With a feathered quill she starts to write a letter.
After half an hour of standing around Sierra picks up and envelope and seals in the letter. She walks slowly over to Cole and hands it to him. ‘Give this to Callum and tell him to leave or else.’ The last bit is said with such power it is unmistakably true. I notice Cole gulp. He turns to leave but Sierra stops him. ‘No I cannot let you go alone. This land is adorned with vampires who aren’t as understanding as Miss Taylors and Cammie. They will escort you with James.’ I open my mouth to protest but think better of it. I nod and follow Cole out.
As we walk out of the court and to the woods I catch Cole by the arm. He tries to shake me off but my grip doesn’t loosen. ‘Cole?’ I say as he powers ahead. He slows and faces me. ‘What’ he growls. ‘Why were you at the school?’ he sighs. ‘I was trying to fit in.’ he finally says. I release his arm and fall back to Jane and James. We walk silently until we and smell the pack. I cover my nose with my arm. ‘Ugg that stinks.’ I mutter. Soon we walk into a large encampment. I feel Jane tense beside me. The were’s around us stop what they are doing and tense up. I smile to myself but don’t say a word. By the time we reach our destination we have our own escort of were’s both in human and wolf form. Cole knocks on the door of the large cabin. ‘Come in’ a gruff voice shouts. Cole pushes in and closes the door behind us. This room is small and has little to no furniture. Cole leads us on into a larger room with two sofa’s in there is a fire at the far end and I have to stop myself from turning away. A single man is stood in the room. He stands up and faces us. ‘Cole and who do we have here?’ he walks over to me and takes my hand. ‘Vampire?’ I smile with fangs and he releases my hand. ‘Yes.’ I reply. ‘What can I do for you?’ he asks taking a step back. ‘Do you realise you are on vampire land?’ Jane butts in. Callum turns to her. ‘No this is Wolf territory.’ He says his voice asserting his alpha power not that they have any effect on us. It is James’s turn to speak and he steps forward. ‘No mutt this land is owned by the Aurora Mazul Coven.’ Callum steps forward. ‘Who is your leader?’ he says his voice firm. ‘Princess Sierra.’ James hisses in return. Callum looks shocked. ‘So we suggest you leave before she has to come in person.’ Jane adds before we all turn and walk out the door. One of the wolves makes a lunge at me but I catch it and throw him away.
As I wake up the next day I find my mind wandering to Cole. If he had any sense he wouldn’t show up today. I walk into form to see everyone staring at me. I ignore them and take my seat. 10 minutes after form starts Cole walk in. I hiss under my breath as our eyes meet. No-one bothers with his introductions so he just takes a seat. Given the choice he chooses the one furthest from me and I can’t help smirking as he walks past me.
Cole catches up to me as I walk out of school. ‘Yes Mutt’ I say stopping. ‘Why are you at school?’ he questions me. ‘I’m only 16 in human years.’ I exclaim. He looks surprised. ‘When were you turned?’ I start to get annoyed at his questioning. ‘I was 13’ I say trying to keep my temper and refrain from snapping his neck in front of all these innocents. He looks even more surprised at this answer. ‘what did you want Cole?’ I say finally letting in. Jane catches up. He looks around. ‘Not here. The court’. Jane and I both nod pulled back by the seriousness of his voice.
This time when we get to the court Sierra isn’t expecting us. One of the guards steps forward. ‘Why are you here?’ he asks us. ‘We need to see Princess Sierra.’ I say stepping forward. ‘No she is busy.’ I tut. ‘Tell her this involves the pack.’ I say nodding my head towards Cole. The guard looks defeated but he complies.
Once the guard returns he nods his head and we follow. This time we are led to a different room. This room is like a small living room. It consists of two large cream sofas. The floor is wooden and the walls are green. A small cabinet in the corner contains a shelve of vials all filled with blood and glasses. Sierra stands as we enter the room. Today her clothes have a modern touch. I small black dress and flat shoes. Her blond hair is bound tightly up in a bun. ‘Oh good you brought the dog.’ She says her voice dripping sarcasm. Cole coughs and straightens himself up as Sierra walks up to him. ‘Why are you here boy?’ she asks him holding eye contact. Cole blinks quickly and draws breath. ‘Callum refuses to leave. In fact he says you will be the ones to leave.’ Without any warning he brings up a hand as slaps Sierra around the face. She shrieks but before she has time to react I’m behind him his hands are behind his back and my fangs are making small indentations in his neck. Cole goes silent and stiffens in my grasp. I pull up without releasing my grip. ‘Try anything like that again and I will bite. If that happens again I will not pull up until the life leaves your body.’ I threaten him and he doesn’t dare move. Sierra I notice is stood smirking at the sight of him in such a weak position. I push him forward and he falls to the floor. ‘Understood?’ I say catching and holding his eye contact. He nods before standing up and placing himself as far away from be as he can. ‘Let’s go’ Jane suggests. I nod and Cole follows. ‘Cammie can I speak to you for a minute.’ Sierra calls. I look at Jane who urges me on. She heads out the door with Cole as I turn back to Sierra. I walk back to the centre. ‘Thank you.’ She says surprising me. ‘What for?’ I say with a curious hint to my voice. ‘For sticking up for me.’ I nod. ‘I couldn’t let him get away with it.’ I admit. ‘Well that was also a lot of self-control for a vampire so young. When I was at 3 years the slightest hint of blood was enough.’ I nod. ‘You may go.’ She says softly.
