We leave the scene as the guards left clean up the bodies. The vampire bodies will be buried whilst the human and were bodies will be burnt.  The journey is in silence and when we get to the court the guards escorting me give me to the court guards. Again in silence we go down to the basement which holds the cells. They throw me in the first one and lock the door. Though they are careful not to touch the bars. I wonder why but when I touch them I understand. Silver. Silver is one of the few things that can harm or kill us. The other things on that list are; Stakes, fire and the worst Werewolves.

I’m sitting on the small bed in the cell when a figure comes up to the bars. ‘Jane?’ she nods. I walk up to the bars careful not to touch them. ‘Cammie what happened?’ she whispers. I look at her eyes. ‘I staked Sierra.’ Jane gasps. ‘Why?’ I turn my head. ‘She wanted me to teach her to hunt. We went out. When we found people to drink I drank then stopped. Sierra couldn’t the woman she drank from almost died. I tried to stop her but in the end the only thing I could do was stake her. I couldn’t let her become one of them.’ Jane nods in agreement. ‘By one of them you mean the Tainted?’ this time I nod. The Tainted were vampires who killed when they drank. Once you become one there was no turning back. the Tainted craved human blood it was the only thing they registered. They left behind any hint of humanness when they turned.

Once Jane leaves I return to the bed and relax. I close my eyes and fall into a light sleep. I wake to see someone at the door. When my eyes adjust to the light I see it is more than one person. I rush up to the bars grabbing hold of them. I quickly release them as the silver burn my hands. I recognise one of the vampires. It was the one that tried to go after the wolves yesterday. I don’t recognise the rest of the guards. They step to the side to reveal Sierra. I look down at the floor. ‘Cammie its ok.’ I shake my head not looking up. ‘Open the door.’ She commands. I hear the lock clicking and the door opening. ‘Ok you can go’ she says to the guards. ‘But she could stake.’ The guard gets cut off and I hear them all move on. Heals click on the stone floor. I walk over to the bed and sit down facing the wall. Sierra places an arm over my shoulder. ‘Cammie I understand what you did.’ I shake my head again. I bring up my hands. The burns have healed but they leave hunger in their place. Whenever a vampire heals itself it uses some of the blood supplies in his or her body. Sierra goes out the cell. Minutes later she returns with a bottle. She hands it to me and I drink it hungrily. I hand the empty bottle back to her.

I turn back to the wall. This time Sierra comes to sit on the bed next to me. ‘Cammie I forgive you. In your position I would have done the same thing.’ I lean into her shoulder and she puts her arm back around me. ‘They want to give you a commendation for your thinking when it was just us and those wolves. It was quick thinking to take that man and use him to our advantage.’ I manage a smile. ‘But Sierra I. staked. You.’ I say softly the smile disappearing from my face. ‘I know but if you didn’t I would have killed that woman and become one of them.’ I shake my head. ‘But if I hadn’t said anything about hunting then we wouldn’t have been in either situation.’ A bloody tear rolls down my face. ‘Cammie don’t cry.’  Sierra says soothingly. She pulls me into a hug. My chin rests on her shoulder.

The next thing I know I’m being dragged back. I hiss and try to turn. I catch a glimpse of a woman but nothing else. I struggle hard and the grip loosens but not enough for me to get free. ‘Get off me.’ I snarl. The woman stays silent then plunges something into my side. I grasp for it but the woman keeps my hands behind me. The pain in my side worsens and I risk a glance. A small silver stake is sticking out I bite my lip making it bleed. ‘Release her.’ I hear someone else command. Sierra. I get pushed forward and fall onto the floor. I see Sierras elegant hand reach down I ignore it and grasp the stake in my side. The handle burns my hands but I ignore it and slide the stake out. It clatters to the floor.

I ignore the vampires around me as I stagger up. Using the wall to support myself I start to walk out. One of the guards goes to stop me but he moves out the way when Sierra commands him. I barely make it into the forest before I fall to the ground. I lean my back against a tree and assess my wounds. The stake wound is healing but the skin slightly blackened. I get up again and move further into the trees. I pass and small puddle and stop to look at my face. My skin is the same but my eyes a vibrant red. We usually have brown eyes with red specks but whenever feeding or wounded they turn to red. You can also let them stay red but most choose the brown so we can fit into civilisation.
