I head for the door but before I get there Sierra has grabbed me. I go to struggle but she pulls me into an embrace. Without thinking I hug her back inhaling the usual scent of vampires, vanilla with a hint of death. When she releases I step back shocked. ‘Sorry’ she says before turning and walking to her cabinet. ‘Can you stay? It’s lonely being here.’ This shocks me but a little less than the hug. I nod. ‘Let me tell Jane.’ Sierra nods. ‘Don’t tell her the reason.’ She says quickly. I nod and walk to the door. Jane I stood with Cole in her grip. ‘I’m staying for a while.’ I say Jane nods and turns with Cole.

I sit down on one sofa. Sierra sits on the other and hands me a glass. We drink in silence and once I finish I place my glass down. ‘Another?’ Sierra offers. I shake my head. ‘This is nice but I prefer it from the source.’ Sierra nods understandingly.  She stands. ‘Then that is what we will do.’ I stand with her. ‘Can you show me how to hunt?’ she adds a little sheepishly. ‘Yes.’

After gathering a team of guards who would shadow Sierra. We leave the court with her following me like a puppy. The guards make themselves scarce and we feel alone. ‘How do we do this then?’ she asks. ‘Just follow my lead.’ I say as we walk on the pavement. Sierra unties her hair letting it fall softly on her shoulders. She smiles at me a friendly smile the only thing that makes me cautious is the fangs. The sun is just setting as we walk into the town. I see a group of girls from my school going into a shop. ‘Them?’ Sierra asks. I shake my head and we keep walking.

We get to a small coffee shop with adjacent alley. I see a couple walking out and into the alley. ‘Them’ I decide and we move in. I place a finger to my lips. I signal for her to take the woman.  She watches me curiously. I walk up to the man and tap on his shoulder. He turns around and leans down. That’s all I need before I bite. My fangs slide in and I drink. I hear the woman struggle as Sierra bites but she calms down when the endorphins hit her. A vampire bite can be addictive so we tend to only bite a person once. Each vampire’s endorphins are different and cause different levels of calmness.

I finish quickly and let the man recover but when I turn to Sierra the woman in her arms is almost dead. ‘Sierra.’ I say tapping on her shoulder. She acknowledges me but is too occupied with the woman to answer. ‘Sierra. Stop your killing her.’ she still doesn’t answer. I search around and find a broken chair. I break off a leg and sort out the end to make one point. ‘I’m sorry about this.’ I say to her before plunging the make-shift stake into her back. Her whole body convulses and she drops the woman. I pull the stake out and go to help the woman up. The wounds in her neck have already healed. I hit her over the head with my stake and she falls to the floor a little blood pooling around her head. I turn back to Sierra. I was in big trouble; I had just staked the Princess Sierra. I lend her a hand and pull her up.  Her wound has healed but she is still weak.

We walk out of the alley. I place an arm around Sierra’s waist to support her. She leans against me as we walk. I stop and quickly call the ambulance for the woman Sierra drank from. As we leave town I hear the distant wail of a siren. I find a bench and sit Sierra down. She slumps down on the bench. I sit next to her. Her whole face is sullen and she looks awful. I slit my wrist with my nail and place the cut to her lips. She drinks hungrily. It is in that position that I feel someone watching us. I glance around and spot a figure in the trees across the road. I recognise him from the forest. One of the were’s. He realises he has been spotted and walks forward. I let out a warning hiss but he is fixated on Sierra. I reclaim my wrist and shift so I am in a protective position.

I let out another hiss at the man in front of me. A woman steps out behind him. She lets out a low growl. Sierra moans as she starts to come around. Where were the guards? That thought is interrupted by another growl. I look in the direction it comes for to see a large grey wolf. In minutes the grey wolf has more following him. I feel Sierra become aware behind me and I signal for her to stay silent. The man that first came out clears his throat. ‘I’m John one of the beta’s.’ he introduces himself civilly even going as far as to stick out his hand. I grasp it and pull him in. I kick out his knees and goes down. I tilt his neck to the side. The wolves let out low growls. ‘Any of you move-‘ I point to them all. ‘-and he dies.’ Everyone stops dead. I smirk and tighten my grip on John who has started to struggle.

Everyone I silent for a moment. Then the guards drop in. They glance at me then turn to the threat.  A couple come to Sierra’s side. They help her up but when it fails they just stand at her side. I turn back to the man at my feet. Then something unexpected happens. A group of humans come out. Led by Mr Wiggins. ‘Cammie darling what are you doing here?’ he sounds genuinely surprised. I hiss at him and his eyes train on my long white fangs. ‘So young’ he muses to himself. Once the humans stop they all raise a stake. The guards all look at me. As long as I hold this were no-one will move against us. I smirk at the hunters and were’s. ‘Stalemate boys. I think you had better go.’ I say cheerfully to both of our enemies. The woman who came with our captive steps forward. I lean in closer to John’s neck. ‘We will not leave without blood.’ She says fiercely. The shifted wolves growl in agreement and the hunters cheer. That does it. I bite down hard and John screams in pain. The woman who spoke against me looks at me tears welling in her eyes. I drink a little then pull out. Placing a firm hand on his shoulder I grab his head and twist. Even the humans hear the crunch.

The wolves leap at us. The guards start on hand to hand combat. The woman who felt sorrow for John is now in overdrive. She rushes at me almost roaring. When she is close enough she leaps shifting in mid-air. She over judged the distance and overshoots giving me time to prepare. I turn it face her. She recovers almost instantly the brown wolf turns snarling and growling. I look in its eyes and see pure rage. It stands meters away from me sizing me up. She leaps her front paws land on my chest pushing me to the floor. I try to get up but the two large paws keep me down. She brings her head up getting ready to bite. Quickly she goes to bite. I close my eyes praying for it to be quick but when the blow doesn’t come I open them. The wolf’s warm breath is blowing in my face. She hesitated she saw me as a child not a vampire. The small hesitation is all I need. I force all my strength into her I push her up. She goes flying into a lamppost. By the time she recovers I’m on my feet. She rushes me again this time I anticipate it. I catch her around the middle and squeeze crushing all the bones around her organs killing her.

The wolves start to back off. Seeing they are outnumbered they take a hint. They turn running off. One of the younger guards goes to take off after them but the guard closest to him. I turn to Sierra who is now fully aware. She stares at me with sad eyes. She says something quietly to her guards and they step up to me. Before I have time to register they have me constrained. I don’t bother to struggle as I know it will do no good. ‘Cameron White you are under arrest for staking the Princess.’ I go to protest but I know I will be ignored.
