I come to an alley and decide to stop. Hopefully I’ve lost the tail of vampires behind me. I look up to find the sun rising. I slump against a wall and wonder what to do next. School I decide in the end. It was my best bet even if everyone did try to catch me. I change into the spare uniform I brought and flit to the school which was less than a mile away.
By the time I work up the courage to go in children are already filing in through the doors. I spot a guard in the playground. Instead of walking through the door I go to one of the windows. Searching until I found the right one I stop and knock. The teacher comes over and opens the window. ‘Cammie?’ comes Mr Wiggin’s voice. I nod and climb in. ‘Sir I need your help.’ I beg. He nods and goes to his bag. He brings out a bottle of liquid. I shake my head. ‘Why does everyone I know carry one of those?’ I ask curiously. ‘It makes a quick escape. You throw it to a vampire they drink giving you time to either escape or ready yourself for an attack.’ I laugh. ‘You know we can finish one in like seconds.’ I say. His eyes go wide. I nod. ‘Prove it.’ He says throwing me the bottle. I twist off the lid and smell it. It was pure. ‘Ready?’ I say to him. He nods and I down the contents. I put the lid back on and smile at him. ‘See’ I laugh and throw him the empty bottle. ‘Wow.’ He says.
He walks over to the windows and locks them. ‘Sir? What are you doing?’ he ignores me. Once he is finished he goes to his desk and opens the draw. He pulls out a silver stake. I step back. ‘Sir?’ he ignores me again. I step back as he comes towards me. I fall over a chair and don’t have time to recover because he is on top of me the stake aimed at my heart. ‘I have waited to kill you the moment you walked in this school.’ He says viciously. I hiss then close my eyes hoping for a quick end. When the stake rushes down and into my flesh I scream.
The world goes black and it feels as if I’m floating. I know I cannot be dead for my chest still aches from the stake.
When my eyes finally open the room I’m in seems insignificant. I sit up and probe at my chest. I feel no evidence of the wound that I had sustained. Someone shouts something but I pay no attention. Well not until I feel arms around me. ‘Cammie’ a velvet voice says softly. I look to find it is Sierra. I push away and glance over the room. No windows the only escape route is a single door. I stand up and walk over to it. I jiggle the handle but find it is locked. ‘You can’t keep me here it’s inhumane.’ I spit pacing up and down. ‘I can do what I want.’ Sierra replies her voice is cold but one glance at her face reveals how much it pains her to say. I shake my head. ‘Cammie please.’ She begs. I turn away from her. ‘No Princess.’ I hear her walk up behind me but by the time she reaches the spot I was in I’m already on the other side of the room. ‘Cammie I’m sorry.’ She pleads. I shake my head again.
My knees give way and I fall to the floor clutching my stomach. I hadn’t realised the hunger until now. I moan but cannot manage anything else. I cannot stand or even move. ‘Cammie?’ Sierra’s worried voice comes beside me. I do not have the strength to move anything except my head. I turn it to look at her. ‘Guards’ she calls and I hear the door open. Again someone picks me up holding me back from her. I turn my eyes to Sierra. ‘No someone get her blood.’ She almost shouts. Then she walks over to where I’m held and takes me off the guard. She slits her wrist and holds it to my lips. I drink hungrily. I release to see the guard she sent out come in. he brings with him a man. The man sinks to his knees and offers me his neck. I glance at Sierra but she urges me on.
The moment I bite into the man I feel better. His blood floods into my mouth. I gulp it down then pull out. I stay on my knees for a moment then stand and wipe my mouth. That’s when I notice the open door. I run and barely make it out before a stake flies past my face. I make it to the main doors and slow a bit. Sierra catches up with me. ‘I’m sorry Sierra.’ I say before pushing them open. I run out them to see James, Jane and Cole walking down the path. ‘Cammie?’ Cole calls as I run past them. ‘What happened?’ I hear James say to Sierra. ‘She got away again. Then one of my guards decided to throw a stake at her.’ I hear her begin to sob. ‘Sierra we’ll find her.’ Jane promises. I sneak to a tree and climb up it to hear the conversation better. ‘Why do you care about her so much?’ Cole says. I hear Sierra sob again. ‘Before I was a vampire I had a daughter. It was 4 centuries ago. I lived in a small cottage on my own. I had just turned twenty. My daughter was 2. She had hair like Cammie’s brown that fell on her shoulder. She was my life. Anyway it was late evening there was a knock on the door. I opened it but found no-one there. I hear Amelia crying upstairs. When I got to her room she was dead. Drained of blood. That was the night I turned.’ I feel a stab of pain. A tear rolls down my cheek. ‘We’ll find her for you.’ Jane assures her. ‘Where would she go?’ Sierra asks between sobs. ‘I don’t know maybe she went back to the forest.’ James suggests. I see Cole shake his head. ‘She never left.’ Cole says pointing to my spot. ‘Cammie please.’ Jane begs. I hop down and walk towards them. ‘Just let me go.’ I say stepping back when Sierra reaches for me. ‘Why? Cammie. Why?’ Sierra says. ‘I can’t trust any of you.’ I say before turning and walking away. It takes all my will to walk away. The only thing that brings me away is the hatred for one man.
The man in question is just walking out of school when I see him. I walk up casually. ‘Cammie. Why are you still alive?’ I smile at his comment. ‘Oh Dear you didn’t think you would kill me did you?’ I laugh. ‘I hope you achieved everything you wanted in life.’ He smiles at me and I realise this was too easy. ‘What. No’ I turn to run but someone catches me. I hiss and try to bite them but I cannot reach. I smell a wolf. ‘Get off me.’ I snarl. Mr Wiggins laughs. ‘We understand Princess Sierra has a soft spot for you.’ I continue to struggle putting all my strength into it but the Werewolf doesn’t let up. ‘Sweetie stop struggling.’ The were whispers in my ear. I snap my fangs inches from his face causing him to straighten up then slap me around the face.
The van shudders to a stop. The doors open and I’m pulled out the back. I recognise the cabin from the outskirts of the pack’s village. I’m dragged inside. The first thing I notice when I get in is that the walls are coated in a silver paint. ‘Is that silver paint?’ I ask the man dragging me in. ‘Yes so you can’t escape.’ I turn back to the room. The man throws me to my knees. I stand up and face him. I hiss with fangs. He laughs and backs out the room.
