17 | hurting inside

Hello guys! So this chapter will be different, this story is in Riley's POV. I know, first chapter with a POV without Maya.

This is chapter 17 of Better Together.

(Riley's POV this time)

At that night, I rested my head on Mom's legs, sad and depressed. And not a single tear came out yet.

She just came in so we did talk much in the last 5 minutes.

"Mom... am I doing it right?" I asked.

She rose an eyebrow. "Doing what's right?"

"For letting Lucas and Maya being together?" I answered.

Mom stopped stroking my hair. She knew that something's not right.

"Riley, I... um..."

"Do you think what I did is best for my best friend, mom?" I asked more.

"Maya always had a crush on Lucas. Plus, she didn't want to tell you because she knew how it will hurt you." She replied.

"He wanted a girl like her. Instead of me." I closed my eyes.

"He didn't have a choice. He didn't know who to pick."

I got up and looked at her straight at her eyes. "I broke up with him. I gave him what he wanted and he's happy."

Then I cry. A tear comes sliding down on my cheek.

"They both think I that I'm not interested in Lucas anymore. But I am!" I yelled as I choked on my words. "Still."

"Breathe." Mom holds my hand.

"They think I'm fine. But I'm actually hurting inside. And it's hurting everywhere."

"At least you're being a good friend to let your guy go. You loved him so much that you had to let go." Mom continued.

I looked at my boots. "I did, didn't I?"

Mom nodded and smiled at me.

Then I smile. "I did. Maya needs a chance with him. And I kept taking the chances."

OF COURSE YOU DID, RILES.

(LOL, JUST KIDDING :D)

"I think you're getting it." Mom gets up and walks away.

I hear a knock on my window, as I turned around and see who it is, it's Farkle.

I opened the window on him.

"Hey, Riley." He noticed my tears. "What happened?"

I wiped my tears off. "I lost something. It's not serious."

"Okay..." He rolled his eyes. "Wanna hang out with Zay and I?"

I smiled and nodded. "Sure. I have nothing to do."

He leaves while I leave with him.
