I leave Art and go to my locker. The end of your first day of school has an awesome feeling to accompany it. I'm very glad it's done. As far as first days go, this one was okay. It definitely beats the first day of seventh grade when I fell down the stairs and broke my ankle.
Someone bumps into me from behind and I turn to watch Megan and friends laugh over to a locker a few down from mine. I casually look over to see whose locker they were visiting. Of course, Landon has to be the one standing next to it. Fiona turns and smirks over at me. I pretend I didn't see. Why did Ms. Dunderland have to pair me up with him? My life would be so much easier right now, had she not paired us up. Curse my blue eyes.
I grab my crap and car keys out of my locker. I turn to walk down the hall and am glad when I make it past the crowd containing Megan, Fiona, Britney, Landon, and friends without an issue.
I exit the school through the same glass doors that started my day. The crowd I was trying to avoid migrates outside near the brick wall I saw Davon on this morning. He's not there now and I silently wonder where he went.
Quickly yet stealthily, I make my way towards the big rock that I'm supposed to meet Bianca at. Part of the group breaks off to go to their cars and go home. The other part lingers near the brick wall.
I sit down on the big rock and fiddle with my phone to make it look like I'm doing something. Then it happens. A red SUV comes barreling out of no where and swerves left and right. The driver loses control and lets go of the wheel. I hear a female scream from inside the car. I panic and stand up. Right in the way of the SUV. I scream and run out of its way. I throw myself off to the side into the grass. The SUV slams into a pine tree near the rock and glass and blood scatter everywhere. My sight goes spotty and I think I might pass out.
The car fades away and Bianca and Davon emerge from the car laughing so hard I think they might die.....again.
I turn back around giving them the finger and smack completely into a sandy-haired boy. Our lips accidentally touch. He grabs my hips and pulls me closer, he didn't mean to kiss me but he sure isn't stopping it now. He lets me go and I take a small step back. He is my first kiss and I don't even know his name.
Bianca smirks and whistles. "Damn, Rainy!"
"Uh, hi," I say nervously.
"Hello. Are you okay? You were screaming and diving and uh, flipping off trees," he says running a hand through his hair.
"Yeah, I just saw a um, bee. I'm severely allergic so I was trying to get away fast. It flew away into the trees. Sorry for bothering you with my craziness," I apologize.
"Nah, it's cool. My little sister is allergic to bees too. She has to carry around an epipen and everything," he explains.
"Ah, ok. What was your name again? I don't think I caught it," I say, knowing full well that he never actually said it.
He jams his hands into his pockets. "Oh, I'm Drew Halzer. I saw you earlier today......I think it was......yes! That's it! We have English together. Ms. Dunderland in third period."
I think back to English for a moment. I only really remember seeing Landon. I think a little harder. Then I remember him. He was laughing with Landon. He was one of the two in the odd eye color corner. I glance up at his eyes. They're a beautiful silvery grey. "Oh yeah! Now I remember you! You were one of the different eye colors! I'm Rain by the way."
"Gray. Yep. Pretty unique name by the way," Drew agrees.
The rest of the crowd meanders over to the cars, including the three witches, "Yo! Drew! We're leavin'! Get over he-" The boy who yelled sees me, a huge grin on his face and adds, "Uh, we're leaving in like five minutes, I guess. Take your time!"
"Well, I should probably get going. Oh wait! Where's my phone at?" I search my pockets and find nothing.
He scans the ground then runs off to where I dove, "Got it!" he presses a few buttons then hands it to me. "Text me," Drew says running over to his buddies.
The group of guys give him congratulatory slaps on the back and fist bumps. They get in their respective cars and drive away. I feel a hand tapping my shoulder and I turn around. Bianca.
"How did you do that!?" I ask, confused. Earlier, it felt like I got shocked.
She smiles and shrugs. "I touched you. I'm solid when I want to be and I can walk through walls when I don't. How do you think I sat down at lunch today?"
"I guess I didn't really think much into it at the time. And what the hell by the way? You two almost gave me a heart attack!" I scold them.
The two of them break out into laughter again. "We can do that whenever we want. Neither of us feel any pain from it and it was kinda useless before, but now there's someone to mess with using that so I couldn't resist."
"Well I'm glad you think it's funny. I looked like an idiot," I say, losing my fire.
"Rainy, you're yelling at us right now. Reminder, no one else can see us," Bianca says.
I look around and only see one freshman looking girl at the bus lane looking at me strange. I put my phone up to my ear and she looks away, relieved. I put my phone back down.
Bianca continues talking, "And, don't act like you didn't get something out of it either." She makes a kissing face.
I turn pink. "Bianca!"
Bianca hides behind Davon and taunts me. "Rain's got a boyfriend! Rainy's gotta boyfriend!"
Davon pipes in, "Bet it was her first kiss too." He laughs with Bianca, joking. Of course, it was my first kiss though.
"Uh," I turn redder.
"Oh my god, it actually was!" Bianca yells, smacking Davon.
I kick a pebble around the dirt. "So?"
"I had mine when I was thirteen," she admits.
Davon pipes in again, "Psh, eight."
Bianca messes up his hair, "Well, you're just a little manwhore aren't you?"
He smiles slightly and hangs his head back down to where it was when I met him.
She frowns. "Day, please don't do this. I forgave you, I forgive you, I love you. Please don't."
"I'm sorry. It was my fault." He drops his hands down from crossed over his chest to hang limply at his sides.
"What's going on?" I say quietly to Bianca.
She clutches tightly at his shoulders and tries desperately to get him out of whatever he's slipped into. She pats his shoulder. "When we got into the crash, Davon told me about a party he went to. Got completely wasted and slept with another girl. I was upset at the time but I forgave him. I forgave you, please come back."
His ghost is still undecided. He wants to live like Bianca, I can tell. But his guilt keeps coming back to him and turning him into the haunting type of ghost. The kind that's not Bianca's.
I use my advanced skill of making crap up on the spot that I acquired from Dr. Carshaw to try and help Bianca. "Davon, listen to her. She's telling the truth. I can not only see, hear, and feel you guys, but I can sense what your feeling too and how you're feeling about someone."
Bianca gives me a questioning look and I wink. She smiles and I go on, "Bianca loves you and forgives you. Don't spend eternity trying to figure that out. I'm telling you now. I have no reason to lie to you."
"Are you sure?" Davon asks, lifting his head back up.
I nod. "Absolutely."
And then something strange happens. I start to feel a mix of happy and relieved emotions. I feel Bianca's love for Davon. It's the first time I've actually felt a ghost's emotions.
