We didn't stop running. A death ball got one more person but we didn't stop.

My heart's pounding and I tried to keep my breaths steady and calm but I failed.

I don't even know how far we've gone, but I'm pretty sure we're ahead of the other Gladers.

Minho suddenly stopped and just a second, his hands slipped away from mine.

I heard him groaned. "Wait, everyone, stop!"

I put my hands on my knees and catch my breath.  "Minho?"

"Why'd we stop?" Frypan asked.

"'Cause I almost broke my shins up there!" Minho shouted back. "I think it's a stairway."

"Minho?" I called again.

"Hey," Minho replied. "where are you?"

"Over here." I said, not moving.

I can feel him move closer in front of me, grabbed me by the waist and gave me a peck on the lips.

I smiled, "My poor baby, how's your knee?"

Minho slightly chuckled, "Pfft, shut up."

"Stop that, love birds. We got another business goin' on here." Frypan said. "Maybe we should go upstairs." He added.

"Oh, what a genius. What do we do without you, Frypan? Seriously." Minho responded.

Minho started to walk upstairs, lacing his fingers with mine.

I heard the others followed behind, and I put my free hand on the side, trying to keep my balance.

"Be careful, shanks." I said.

All I hear was footsteps and squeaking until Minho's head bumped into something and yelled, "Ow!"

"Whoa, what happened?" I asked, and even in the darkness I can see him rubbing his head in annoyance.

"What'd you hit?" Thomas called up.

"The shuck top, that's what. We hit the roof, now I gotta find the shuck handle." Minho replied.

I heard a click then suddenly I felt blind again. I feel like my skin was burning now due to extreme hotness above.

"HOLY SHUCK!" I yelled.

Then the darkness came back, oh nice.

"Shuck me," Minho said.

"Not yet." I joked.

"You sneaky little shuck, that's not what I meant." He slightly laughed.

"Looks like we found a way out, but I think it's the freaking sun! Man, that was bright. And hot." Minho said.

"Like me." I added again.

"Yeah, whatever. Not hotter than me though." he replied.

I chuckled, remembering that time when he said the same thing back in the dorm room.

"Let's just get the shuck outta here." Newt said. "Let our eyes get used to it. Everybody, shut your eyes!"

Minho opened the so called door again, light and heat bursting down on the stairwell.

"C'mon! I feel like it's already burning my skin!" Minho said.

"We should cover ourselves with the sheets or we'll have a bad sunburns in five minutes." I said.

I searched for my sheet on my back pack and wrapped it around me like a robe, slightly protecting me from the sun.

I saw the other Gladers do the same and my eyes are slowly adjusting to the blinding light.

"Y/N? You okay?" Minho asked.

"With the blinding light and the scorching sun? I'm definitely okay." I said.

When my eyes got used to the brightness, all I saw was sand and lifeless earth. Like a disaster.

"You shanks ready?" Minho said.

"Kind of excited, actually." Newt replied.

I turned around to study my surroundings, and I didn't even see a single tree. But in the far distance, I can see some mountains, also some buildings.

"You think those buildings could be a hundred miles? Is that where we have to go?" Thomas asked.

"No way. That could be thirty miles. And the mountains might be sixty or seventy." Minho answered.

I don't feel like saying a word right now, I feel like even just opening my mouth is too much to do.

"We should keep going." I finally said, my voice raw.

"Let's just hope there's no Cranks anywhere." Newt said.

We started walking forward, my feet brushing the sands on the ground.

Minho came up beside me, holding his sheet draped over him. "Hey, you okay?"

"Yeah, just a little tired." I said.

"My poor baby.. " Minho mimicked me.

"Shut up." I chuckled.

He kept walking for a while, then stole a kiss from my cheek. Then he kept walking again.

"What was that for?" I asked, smiling.

"Nothing. Just wanna kiss you." he replied.

"Oh. Not surprised." I said.

"Whatever." he said.

"Didn't know the Scorch would be hotter than my hotness and yours combined." I said.

Minho laughed, "Yeah, I didn't know that too."

After that, I didn't say anything again. I just focused on walking and keeping my shits together.

Then I turned around again to study my surroundings, feels like we've been walking for too long but looks like we're not even moving.

Sand dunes, dry and lifeless earth, destroyed buildings and the blinding light.

Welcome to the Scorch.
