The class of Miss Felina is clearly not listening. I am part of this mayhem. Mostly because this is the worst subject to be in. History. Great. But who gives a shit? I certainly don't. Right now, we have just finish the history of Romans, and I think she said we are starting a new topic. Hmm. What was it? Oh yes, Egyptology. It sounds a little less dull than Romans, but my resolution for this year is to concentrate in the worst subjects. And I'm following protocol perfectly, based on my judgement.
I strained to hear what Miss Felina was talking about, because the zoo I was situated in was a little too loud.
"Settle down everyone, I have a special announcement to make!"
Several kids gave suggestions to what the "special announcement" was.
"You're getting married?"
"You're getting fired?"
"Your dog died?"And someone whispered, "Dija lose your virginity?"
But my teacher was not as amused as I was at the questions. She cleared her throat, "We are going to the Museum of Natural History, tomorrow!"
"I am going to ask Tayyibah to hand out the slips to you."
My best friend got up slowly, and reluctantly, as Miss Felina handed her the papers. Tayyibah carefully gave each pupil a trip letter, and smiled gently at one guy, Suga, the exchange student from Korea. She told me she always had a crush on him. I don't blame her. He's a diamond package. He is great at singing, dancing and has a beautiful, pale complexion. He had a dreamy look when Tibs handed him the letter, as if it was a love note from her.I so hope they get together, ASAP, because I'm pretty sure he loves her as much as she loves him.
I skimmed through the letter, and stopped at the words, "Tomorrow, at 12.00 pm your son/daughter will be attending The Museum of Natural History, to help with the current topic they are learning in history about the Egyptians."
Midnight! Is that woman crazy? I bet half the class won't even attend. As if our parents are as crazy as her to give us consent. But then my gaze passed at the bottom of the letter, "This trip is a compulsory visit, because of the special 'effects' that are going to occur while we are there. You can occupancy your child, if you feel you need to be responsible for their behaviour."
Oh, I thought. That's why. What kind of "special effects"? A firework party going on in the middle of the museum? (Purlease!)
I looked around at my peers to check their expressions were as surprised as mine. They were mostly can't-be-bothered-with-this looks on their faces. Probably because they never read the letter like I did. Typical jerks.
At lunch I sat down next to Tibs. She had a concerned emotion portrayed on her face. Tapping her shoulder, I asked, "What happened? If you need anything, just ask me."
She replied, "Well, my mom wont let me go on this visit, and I really wanted to go. I think it will be fun to hang out night with friends, you know chill?"
"My parents are in England, and my social carer doesn't give a shit about me going or not. But I can convince your mom like last time? If that helps?"
She perked up after that, because I know I'm really good at convincing her mom. Then we started the topic of our crushes, well mostly Tayyibah's crush. I said, "I could be your wing-woman!"
She laughed, "I bet you can't even go up to him to ask him about homework!"That is totally not true. In fact, I'm really confident around guys. Just wait Tibs, you are gonna be with him, and it will be my actions that will make you two the sweetest couple ever.
