I was raised in a mixed up world with Vampires and Wolves both equally as dangerous, but just as equally corrupted. My kind was created to hate wolves and to kill them, the wolves were made for the same purpose, but my mother seemed to have broken that vow a long time ago when she fell in love with a wolf named James. I found that out after his son Robert let something slip and I forced him to talk, I didn't even think he knew anything about that because my mother had kept that secret from my father and I so of course I just assumed that he kept it from his son which on my part was stupid for thinking that he would keep that kind of thing from his one and only son, but unfortunately he hadn't. I have a sister named Teresa, she's much older than me, but she didn't even know about mom loving a wolf. Teresa travels around the world, she never likes to stay in one place for long I never had the chance to meet her when I was younger because at a specific age she took off traveling so it was a really big surprise when she came home on my eighteenth birthday which had made that day better than it had been before she showed up. I'm going to tell you my story of what happened, and no I'm not going to start off when my mother gave birth to me...even I don't want to think about that. No, I'm going to start off right after I turned Thirteen...yes it's five years back, but if I started further than that well...let's just say it's very boring and I'm saying that because from the time I was born until my thirteenth birthday nothing really happened until then which sent my world plunging into darkness until now.
Today is my thirteenth birthday and I'm so excited, 'I wonder if Teresa will show up?' I thought to myself, but quickly pushed that thought down I knew better than to think that
Teresa was going to show up I haven't even seen her since I was six and she was eight when she left.
Maybe she forgot about me.
Maybe she doesn't even care.
I quickly shook my head and changed into clean clothes for the day than I rushed downstairs. "Good morning mom!" I said entering the kitchen, giving her a big hug and kissing her cheek. She smiled brightly at me. "Good morning birthday girl!" She beamed kissing my forehead then handed a plate of pancakes and syrup to me. "Thank you mom!" I said sitting down at the table. "Your welcome sweetheart." She set a glass of milk down beside me. When I finished eating I put my dirty plate and fork in the sink. "So where is dad?" I asked as she started washing my dirty dishes and looked back at me. "Outside working on the truck." I smiled and ran out the front door I reached my dad in seconds. "Hey dad!" I beamed, he looked back at me and smiled. "Hey there Birthday girl!" He said patting my head then kissing my forehead. "So what's wrong with the truck?" I asked looking down at all of the truck parts scattered all over the ground. "Can't get the truck to stay running, stupid engine keeps cutting out on me.." He said as I approached the truck and looked under the hood. "It looks like all of the parts have gone bad and their rusted...I bet it will cost a lot to buy new parts." I said. "Well aren't you the little vehicle mehanic...and your right it'll cost a fortune to buy new parts." He said scratching the back of his head. "Well I'm sure things will work out dad." I said and he smiled. "Yes sweetheart, I'm sure they will." "Melissa sweetheart could you please come here for a minute!" My mom suddenly called from the front door. "Coming mother!" I called back, I rushed over to my mom who was standing in the doorway waiting for me. "Yes mother?" I asked smiling at her. "Melissa I have to tell you something very important okay?" She asked and I nodded my head. "I have a very important business trip that I have to attend and I'm leaving tonight...can you promise me that you'll behave for your father while I'm gone?" This has to at least be the 100th business trip she's been on since I was six. "Okay mom, I'll behave." I said and she kissed my cheek. "That's my girl...now why don't you play something on the piano to pass the time until everyone arrives." I smiled.
"Okay." I followed my mom inside and closed the door behind me, I ran into the living room and took a seat at the piano, I took a deep breath and started playing a sweet little tune that always reminds me of the leaves falling from the trees in the Fall. I love the Fall, the way the cool crisp air hits my face when I walk outside in the morning, the way the leaves change color showing signs that winter is almost here and the way the world looks in general, so beautiful and so bright. When it came to an end I just sat there staring off into the distance caught up in a daydream, it wasn't until I heard voices that I snapped out of it. "Melissa!" My mother called to me and I quickly got up and ran out of the living room I was immediately brought into a big bear hug by my Aunt Grace. "Oh my haven't you grown Melissa! You were like Six the last time to saw you! Your growing up too fast." My Aunt Grace beamed and I smiled up at her, It's true though I haven't seen my Aunt Grace since I was Six, that's mostly because she's been through some very complicated stuff lately and now that some of it has settled down some she decided to come down for my Birthday. I'm glad that she's here though, I've missed her a lot and I know that she has missed me a lot too. The rest of my family is here though my Uncle Steve, my cousin Riley and her brother calob, my Aunt Lyndsay and Uncle Ronald and a couple of other relatives I haven't seen in a while, but the people that stand out the most is my mothers friend James and his son Robert and I say "Stand Out" because they are Wolves that's right "Wolves" I consider just running up to my room and locking the door, but I know that my mom and dad would probably be mad at me and besides my mom is leaving tonight so I want to spend as much time as I can with her before she leaves for her business trip. The grown ups burts into huge conversation and already I'm ready to go to bed because of how straight up boring this is. I groan and plop down on the piano stool the only piece of furniture that isn't taken. I just sit there and watch the grown ups talking amongst themselves until I get bored again and decide to play something on the piano. "Honey please be quiet the grown ups and I are talking." My mom said. "Mom I'm bored there's nothing to do." I said. "Why don't you hang out with Robert?" I shook my head. "No I think I'll just sit here and daydream." I'd rather die than be anywhere near Robert, he's so full of himself and thinks he's above it all he even has it in his head that we're dating, uh...heck no! "If your sure." She said and I nodded my head. "I'm sure." I said, she sighed and returned to talking with the other grown ups I sat there for a while just daydreaming, when all of a sudden I felt a light touch on my shoulder I looked up and smiled up at my Aunt Grace who was smiling back at me. "You enjoying your party?" She asked as she sat down next to me. "Not really." I admitted and she chuckled. "Yeah I know what you mean, but the day will get better." I looked over at her. "Why Do people expect so much from other people?" I asked and she sighed. "The world is a complicated place Melissa, people make mistakes and others well they don't...people expect more from others so they can feel like they have the more power over people, but when really they don't have anything and just want to be noticed." She said I nodded my head slowly. "Okay." "Why sweetie? Is there something you want to tell me?" She asked and I shrugged my shoulders. "I don't know..." I trailed off. "Look, I will always be here for you...If you want to talk to me about something I will always stand up for you, no matter what." I smiled at her, that's why I was always so close to my Aunt Grace she always did care about me in a motherly way, a way I always felt safe and confident enough to tell her things I wouldn't normally tell others...and I loved her for that. "Thanks Aunt Grace." I said and she hugged me. "Your welcome Mel." The other grown ups ended their conversations a little while later. "Melissa its time to blow out the candles on your birthday cake." My mother said carrying my cake into the living room and setting in down on the coffee table I smiled down at my cake, it was as beautiful as always and you can thank my mom for that. Chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and red Roses along with my name in red frosting spelled out. "Happy 13th Birthday Melissa" I got up from the piano stool, ran up to her and gave her a big hug. "I love it mom! It's the best cake ever! I love you so much!" I said hugging her tighter. "Awe! I love you too sweetie!" My mother said kissing me on the top of my head, I sat back down on the piano stool and took a deep breath, thought about what I wished for then blew out the candles on my cake. Everyone clapped and all smiled at me my mother cut me a slice of cake then cut a slice for James and Robert then everyone went back to talking some left the room and came back with their presents for me, but other than that it was peaceful. "Hey Mel do you like your cake?" I heard someone ask and immediately rolled my eyes. "I love my cake...how do you like your slice?" I asked. "Not bad your mom really knows how to bake a good cake." He said. "Yeah, I'm glad to have a mother like her." Clearly Robert was trying to get me to talk to him some more and I didn't want to all I wanted was to have a nice, peaceful birthday and he had to come along and try to ruin it. "Soo..." He tailed off when I cleared my throat. "Umm...excuse me Robert, but I'm not really in the mood for talking right now." I said. "Oh, ok...umm...sorry I thought you wanted to....Uh ok see ya." He walked away and I sighed heavily. I kept eating my slice of cake until it was knocked right out of my hand. "What the Hell was that all about!" James shouted and I looked at him oddly. "What?" I asked. I was really confused what the heck did I do to him this time? "You know what I'm talking about! Robert was just trying to be nice and start a conversation with you seeings as you were sitting all alone! You didn't have to be such a little bitch to him!" "What?!" He slapped me acoss the face. "Don't you dare yell at me again!" "What the heck is wrong with you?! I wasn't being rude to Robert all I told him was that I wasn't in the mood for talking! You didn't have to turn it into something serious! Jesus!" I shouted, He was now towering over me like a skyscraper or a blanket of darkness and it really terrified me.
