The legend of the four swords is one that is older than the kingdom of Sahala itself.

The legend goes as follows:

Millénium ago the land that would become Sahala was covered in darkness. Monsters and demons lived on this land and would spread to other parts of the world. The people that lived there, lived in perpetual terror. There was no difference between day or night.

Until one day.

A warrior who glowed with the light of the sun. He wore a cloak at all times, so no one ever saw his face. On his left hand he wore five rings; one for each finger. Each had a differnet colored spherical gem set in a strange tinted metal. On his wrist above the rings he wore a band of gold with the same five gems set in it. He carried with him a glittering blade that repulsed evil of all kind.

He went from village to village, spreading his light and destroying monsters and demons as he went.

Eventually he went to the Demon's Tower. It sat at the center of Sahala and was where the Demon King Sahala himself ruled the land from. The warrior faced him in his own throne room. As the story goes the warrior's sword would break into four parts giving him four swords to fight with. Each represented an element, fire, earth, ice, and air. With the swords he sealed away the demon king in the four swords.

He hid three of the swords in the farthest corners of Sahala, with a portion of Sahala's spirit trapped in them. The Sword of Fire, Clarent, was placed in the South Sea. Joyuese the Sword of Earth was placed in the desert where the Sahalan mines would eventually be place. Durendal, The Sword of Air was placed in the hand of the Eastern monks. And the Sword of Ice, Excalibur was given to the royal family.

Each sword was made of stone and had little ornament to it. The only distinguishing feature of each was the small gem on the tip of the hilt. Each had one colored to represent the element it stood for. Brown for earth, red for fire, white for air and blue for ice.

He divided them up to keep Sahala's spirit broken up. When his task was done he named the new royal family by giving them Excalibur. He opened a portal that he said would take him through time and space. He went through and left the land in the hands of its people.
