"So how long do I have to be without my dog?" I asked after hearing Tristan's plan.
It wasn't really much of a plan since we realized that we didn't know what Alec was going to do.
"Not long hopefully. We just-"
The sound of glass shattering shocked us both, making me jump a mile high and Tristan cower in fear as a bullet barreled through the apartment, it ended up hitting a vase and lodging itself in the wall. What the hell is going on here?
I was screaming my head off, and I covered my face with my hands as if that would help.
"Val are you okay?" Tristan questioned, peeking up from behind the couch after probably around twenty minutes of cowering. My brain was still attempting to recover from the near death experience
I nodded, my body still trembling from the shock. "I think someone is out to get you. First the man chasing you and now, a murder attempt."
Tristan might not see me around anymore, he's gonna get me killed.
"I think so too. I guess it's time to hire a bodyguard or two." He said, cautiously getting up. "Come on, we can't stay here."
"Are you not going to call the authorities? You just got shot at!"
And they only fired one bullet, they most likely have many more and they're just waiting for the chance to shoot again when their target is in range.
"What will they do? It's not like they have any evidence they can find leads on." Tristan scoffed.
"The fûcking bullet in your wall seems like plenty of evidence to me!" I snapped, already dialing 911.
"911, what's your emergency?" The dispatcher answered calmly.
"Uh I just got shot at in a friend's home at 2752 West Avenue, apartment 999." I replied.
"Is anyone injured? And is the attacker still in the home?"
"No and no."
"The police will arrive shortly, please stay on the line until they arrive."
The phone was set down on the counter and I sighed deeply. This was my life, having to deal with crazy exes, and near deaths.
When the cops finally showed up, they talked to both me and Tristan; took possible evidence, including the bullet; and did some more snooping around before departing. It was around four am when it was all over and I was exhausted.
"I'm calling an uber, are you coming?" I asked Tristan.
"I mean I could just stay at a hotel."
"My house is free... And don't you bring up the fact that you can afford it, I know and I don't care."
This wasn't really about wanting Tristan to stay with me, I really just didn't want to be alone. My day was extremely stressful and I didn't even have Miguel waiting patiently for me to return so he could enough levels with me and melt all my negative energy away. Now, I only have various alcohol spirits and ice cream.
He studied me for a while, his piercing gaze was making me a touch uncomfortable; it was like he knew exactly what I was thinking.
"Yeah, okay." I answered after a while. "I'm just gonna get some clothes."
***
Look! Tristan you're on the news!" I said somewhat excitedly.I decided to take a day of work and look for Miguel again, just in case; Tristan was still at my house, he was going to stay until we were sure everything had cleared up.
