a/n: as requested by @Betzy0812345 ! I'm very sorry if this story is super sh*t, it's my first family fic ever and welp I haven't ever written something like this. Anyway, enjoy!! :)
Karlie runs out onto the field with a gleeful Kaleb. Both of them chasing after a soccer ball and each other on the soft, green grass that lined their backyard.
"Be careful!" Taylor calls out, always with a worried look on her face. "Babe, can you guys come back for a bit? I need to put some sunscreen on Kaleb and you!"
"But Mommyy, I'm five now! I don't need sunscreen anymore," Kaleb protests. He crosses his arms across his chest, standing indignantly with a pout on his face.
Karlie can't help but laugh and shake her head at the sight before her. Hmm, just like his mother.
Taylor looks on at their sandy-haired, green-eyed son and resists the urge to laugh right along with her wife. Instead she carries their daughter Tasha in her arms, along with the bottle of sunscreen, and makes her way towards her wife and son.
"Kaleb Oliver Swift-Kloss," Taylor begins. She hands Tasha off to Karlie and crouches down to face him, "You still need sunscreen, Little man! To keep you safe so your skin doesn't get all red and itchy."
"But why nooot? I can just scratch it!"
"Baby, it's going to hurt if you do," Taylor says. She pauses for a moment, trying to rethink a strategy to get him to put on the sunscreen and offers a thought, "Tell you what, baby. If you let Mommy put sunscreen on you, you and your sister can put it on your Mom and me. Does that sound like a good deal?"
Taylor watches the little boy consider the options so seriously while Karlie shoots her a look that read "What?!?".
"Deal!" Kaleb jumps up and says. He comes closer to Taylor and lets her apply the lotion without complaint, eager to get his turn at holding the bottle and doing the same for his moms.
"Uh oh, are you sure you made a sound deal, babe?" Karlie asks her wife, raising an eyebrow questioningly.
"I had no choice! He's so stubborn it would've taken forever," Taylor replies.
"Now I wonder where he got that stubbornness from," Karlie jests, her eyes twinkling in mischievous delight and her laugh echoing across the field.
Taylor makes a face at her wife, causing Tasha to laugh as well. There was nothing she loved more than seeing Karlie and the kids this way. They had Karlie's smile and their laugh identical to hers, in how it filled a room or the warmth it brought to anyone who heard it.
"Kaleb painted Mommy!" the little blonde, blue-eyed girl squeals and claps. All while seeing her brother smear globs of white lotion across Karlie's cheeks and nose.
"Okay, okay, you got me!" Karlie falls back and raises her arms in fake surrender. She wraps an arm around her daughter's waist, tickling her, and the other around her son, "I think it's your turn, Babe. Hold still!" Karlie says with a smug face.
The three of them rush over to where Taylor sits, tossing and tumbling over her. Making sure to smear as much of the lotion as they can on to her as she doubles over with Karlie pinning her down, "Kaleb, Tasha, over here! You missed a spot!"
"We got you, Mommy!" Tasha squealed with delight and hugged her mother.
Kaleb joins them and laughs, "Mom, you and Mommy look funny," snuggling into her close.
"We look funny now, do we?" Karlie pokes his side and he tries to squirm away from her touch. She rolls on her side and lays down next to Taylor, as the children run free from their grasp and onto the field. Their little world couldn't be any more perfect than it was in that moment.
Taylor's hand finds Karlie's and leaves a light kiss on her lips, "I love you."
"And I love you."
