The level of noise in the Kloss household was at its peak that evening; what with all four sisters, Mr. & Mrs. Kloss, and the dogs together again under one roof in their St. Louis home.
Karlie was up in her room, trying to block out the cacophony of her home by watching the latest fan videos from Taylor's tour. It's been a habit of hers since the tour kicked off in May, another way to see her superstar girlfriend even if they were miles apart.
Hey, I miss you, she types out absentmindedly on her phone, like A LOT. Call me when you can. I love you!
Karlie felt lonely despite being in a crowded house; lonelier still these past weeks in New York and Colorado, even when she was surrounded by her family, friends, and colleagues.
The door to her room opens with a bang, followed by a dog's high-pitched barks and her sisters' shouts, "KARLIE! Mom said dinner, NOW!"
When will these two ever learn to keep it down? Karlie closes her eyes and scrunches up her face as Kimby & Kariann's voices bounce against the walls of her room. "Okay!" she calls out, "Could you close the door plea—"
Ugh. Fine, fine, I'm going down to dinner then, the blonde closes her laptop and stands to leave the room following after the twins. She gets to the dining room and sees her mom laying out plates of food.
"Wow, mom! Isn't this a bit much just for the six of us?" Karlie asks, taking care to count the number of places set on the table, "I didn't know we were expecting company," she says, noting the spare seat.
Tracy Kloss could only smile at her and say, "Oh no, this will fit all of us just fine, honey. Go out to the back and call everybody inside, would you?"
Karlie merely shrugs and goes to fetch the rest of her family for dinner. She walks past the kitchen, not even noticing the mixed arrangement of peonies and plates full of edible glitter and glazed cookies.
"Guys, come on in! Time for dinner!" she hollers, approaching her Dad's side at the grill.
Karlie sees the group of girls standing in the middle of their garden, talking and looking up at the night sky, and her heart skips a beat.
"What in the world are you doing here?!"
"It's nice to see you too," the blonde blue-eyed girl deadpans, causing laughter to erupt from the three Kloss sisters.
"I thought you were— how did you even get here?" Karlie asked flustered. She was too mesmerized by Taylor's eyes twinkling like the stars that night, relishing in the fact that she got to do this again after so long.
"I took the jet, then Kimby texted me the directions. I had them drop me off a couple of minutes ago," she smiles.
"Oh and I missed you a whole lot too, by the way," Taylor laughs, shaking her phone at Karlie, with the model's last message displayed onscreen.
Karlie steps toward her in two long strides and envelopes Taylor in the biggest bear hug she could muster, literally lifting the blue-eyed girl a few inches off the ground.
"I'm so happy you're here. Thank you," she says softly enough only for Taylor to hear.
"Get a room, will you!"
"KIMBY!"
"Whaat? It's true," Kimby raises her hands in defense, "Hurry up, I'm starving!"
"Okay, that's enough of you. Kimby, Kariann, let's go help Dad," Kristine pushes the twins lightly into the house, looking back, winking at Karlie and Taylor.
"Come on, I saved you a seat right next to me!" she leads Taylor back inside by the hand.

It felt surreal, eating with fork in hand while the other holds her girlfriend's on the dinner table, listening to Taylor animatedly talk to her mom about fall recipes and catching her dad and sisters up about the tour. Karlie loved every bit of it.
"Too bad you missed out on fashion week with us! We all had so much fun at the show," Kimby laments, while Kariann nods in agreement.
"I know! I wish I could've been there too," the singer sighs, "I saw the video though! Looks like someone kept the camera in everyone's face the whole time," she teases, to which the group laughs and agrees.
"Well it was for the vlog!" Karlie says, feigning offense, "and I was making sure Tim had enough footage to work with."
"When am I gonna be in that vlog of yours anyway?" Taylor raises an eyebrow at her.
"The day that happens, you'll both be responsible for breaking the internet," Kariann deadpans. She looks to her twin and they high-five, with Kimby adding, "People already freaked out about your video for Vogue, they'll definitely lose it if you guys do a candid vlog one!"
"Soon." Karlie kisses the back of Taylor's hand, smiling up at the blue-eyed girl. She spoons the last of her dinner as the conversation between Taylor and the rest of the Klosses flows back easily to holiday plans, sports, and school, among other things.
As the group finished the meal, Mr. & Mrs. Kloss stood up to gather the coffee and pastries for dessert while Kristine and the twins helped clear away the dishes. Thus leaving Taylor and Karlie to themselves at the table.
"I'm really happy you're here," Karlie squeezes Taylor's hand.
"I am too! But, am I talking too much, though? I feel like I'm just blabbering on and on like I'm being annoying. Oh my god, I'm doing it right now aren't I?"
"Babe, relax. You're great! Everyone loves you!"
Taylor makes a face, "Are you sure?"
"Look, you've covered every point of interest possible in this family at least once and you've got everyone cracking up with your jokes and stories," Karlie gives her hand another reassuring squeeze. "They love you, I love you, we all love you! Okay?"
"Okay," Taylor smiles, as Karlie gives her a quick kiss on the top of her head.
"Alright, who wants coffee?" Mr. Kloss announces, while Mrs. Kloss brings in the plates of dessert, "Taylor honey, these cookies are amazing. You have to give me the recipe!"
"Sure thing, Mrs. Kloss! It's super easy to do, just add in some chia tea into the mix and—"
Seeing everyone at the dinner table mesmerized and engrossed in conversation with Taylor made Karlie's heart melt. Not to mention, a bit of pride in how easily Taylor could relate and steer into what each of the Klosses wanted to talk about, and how genuinely interested she was in listening to what everyone had to say.
Sitting there surrounded by her family and Taylor, Karlie felt the happiest she's ever been —she felt complete, in that perfect moment. And she wished to herself many more moments just like this to come; more chances to fall in love with Taylor and her charm all over again and to watch everyone else important in their lives to fall in love with her too.
