I stayed at home right after my sudden dismay at Luke. What would I do now? I asked myself the moment I entered the dining room. I was just staring at the ceiling for a couple of minutes, as the memory of what happened earlier kept replaying. Nathan could not pair me up with Luke.
I should probably be telling Nathan what I really feel about him. All I need was some pack of courage which I could definitely buy in grocery stores.
I was ready to embarrass myself the moment I dressed up into red t-shirt and black jumper, and headed for the door. But before I could even get into the bus stop leading to the football field where Nathan spends his spare time (according to some insider), the Luke Hemmings appeared, carrying a pint of ice cream in his hand.
"Why are you here?" I huffed, glancing away from his direction.
"I brought a peace offering." he responded with a duck face, placing the pint on top of his head. I rolled my eyes. He looked like an idiot for doing that, but who cares, he's the Luke Hemmings. Even if he wears nothing or does nothing, he'll still manage to look adorable in every girl's eyes.
"Do you know that I don't like ice cream?"
"What the hell, are you human? No one can ever say no to ice cream."
"Guess what, I'm an exception." I said. Thank God, the bus had arrived. When the door flew open, I was about to walk in when Luke's hands grabbed my arm so I was forced to face him again.
"Stay." He said just one word, but he sounded so serious. I shook my head, but before I could even react once more, he held my frail body and carried me away from the bus.
"I want to ride the bus!" I cried out like a five year old girl. Luke was strong enough to keep me in place. I was busy hitting his back with my hands, and since my head was upside down, I did not realize that he was bringing me his car. "Where are we going? I'm not coming with you!"
When I shouted, "Help, I'm being kidnapped!", we then became in trouble.
A police officer appeared, blocking our way. "Damn it." Luke cursed under his breath.
"Put the girl down." The police officer commanded. Luke immediately obliged. The moment my shoes came in contact with the floor, I steadied myself but ended falling to the ground instead. The police officer pulled me up, and gave Luke a smug expression. "You two need to come with me." Luke and I stood frozen upon hearing what the police had just said.
"He did not do anything." I told the police, pleading him to let us go. My hands were even in praying position. "Then, why were you screaming?"
Luke was about to say something but I told him to shut up. "We were shooting for a school project." I immediately took my iPhone, and pressed the video button. "We were just practicing. Our friends are on the other side of the street, they are secretly filming as well."
The police looked at the street opposite to where we are, and said, "I don't see any friends of yours."
"That's the power of secretly filming that I was just talking about." I told him with a grin. The officer continuously shook his head. "Just to be sure, may I ask for your names?"
"Jessica Quinn." I said, "And that's Luke Hemmings." I pointed at Luke. Luke waved his hand and winked at the officer. I could not help but let out a small laugh. "Okay kids, please do your video somewhere else. You would not want people to have a wrong interpretation of what you're doing." The officer responded.
"We definitely would." I beamed at the officer, who left right away. When I turned my gaze to Luke, he was not smiling like I was. "I am terribly sorry." I bit my bottom lip, knowing I was in trouble again.
"First, you had me sent to the principal's office, and now, you almost sent me to prison. I don't know what I would do with you anymore, Jess." He leaned at one of the lamppost, and crossed his arms.
"I said I'm sorry. You look good by the way. I mean, in that outfit of yours." I said. I looked at him from head to toe. He was wearing a dark blue sweatshirt, skinny jeans and Adidas sneakers.
"Thanks for the compliment but I am still disappointed." Luke kept his duck face on.
"What should I do to make you better?" I asked, taking a step closer to him. All of sudden, I felt something hitting my back. My whole body slammed against Luke's hard one. Luke immediately wrapped his arms around me and steadied me. The proximity between me and Luke made it hard for me to breath. I turned my head sidewards to check what hit me. It was a skater who accidentally tripped, sending his skateboard flying, hitting not the ground, but my back.
"Am I bleeding?" I asked Luke with a worried expression. He seemed shocked too of what happened. He shook his head in slow motion, and asked me to turn around. He placed a hand on my back, asking me if it hurt. It did, but I told Luke otherwise. "Not at all, just, a itsy-bitsy pain." I said with a faint smile.
"Watch where you're going!" Luke shouted at the boy who was now on the ground, struggling to get up. Two men helped the boy, and ushered him to a nearby bench. "Rest for a while." I heard one man said to the boy.
Luke, on the other hand, did not show pity towards the boy. "Luke, that's mean. He got hurt too." I said.
"You got hurt more." He huffed. "Come on, let's leave before we get in trouble again." Luke grabbed my arm, and this time, I willingly obliged to come with him.
When we entered his car, I said, "What could I do to make you feel better?"
Luke replied, "Nevermind. Just get over it." He turned on the radio, loud enough for him not to hear another word coming from me. This boy have issues, and he better spill them out.
I turned his radio off and shouted from outside the window, "Help, Luke would not tell me what could make him feel better!" I kept screaming, until I heard Luke laughing. He closed the window and told me to face him. "Since you do not like ice cream, how about a yogurt snack time with me?" He asked. My eyes were wide in awe at his request. I clapped my hands and said, "Perfect! Exactly what we both needed." I returned his radio to its previous volume and we both hummed to the tune of Jonas Brother's Love Bug.
"Jessica Quinn, to be honest, you really are one hell of a girl." Luke muttered as the song changed into a punk rock one. "Luke Hemmings, to be honest, you really are one hell of a yogurt boy." I replied, but then I realized, "What happened to the ice cream that was previously on your head earlier?"
Luke turned his gaze from the road to me, with his jaw dropping. "I think, it spilled on the ground..." His voice faded, and he shifted his gaze back to the road.
All of a sudden, a realization came to me. "Luke, I think we're the reason why the skater tripped. Maybe he tripped on the pint or what." I bit my nail in sudden embarrassment of what happened.
"Are you serious? What a deadly ice cream." That was Luke last words before we drop off to the yogurt store.
