Chapter III
The sun was close to setting when they pulled up in a beat up cherry red Chevrolet to a mansion sized house. The driveway was packed with teenagers. Reese expected body guards, men dressed in black with shades on their faces to be standing nearby. That didn't appear to be happening, so it seemed.
Cameron was bound to turn heads for sure. The dress she wore was mostly gold, and flowery. It took up most of the backseat. That was why Aden took shotgun. Reese had no idea how Aden managed to bring everything in one trip, even though he lived only a block away from them? Or did he live further? He was also wondering the looks he might have gotten, even though he had a short distance to walk from his place.
Reese found a mystery about Aden. He never talked about his parents from what Reese knew. He wondered what they were like. Were they worse than his own, or better? Reese knew not to bother asking. It wasn't his business.
Reese didn't have long to think about that, because he found one of his oldest friends, Lenny, standing by the doorway. Reese could care less about anything else. Lenny had once been female, now in the process of transgendering towards male. He'd recently graduated, so Reese was starting to feel that tonight might not be so bad after all.
After a proper greeting (a secret handshake exclusive to them only), Reese turned his head back towards the entrance. Whoever owned this place was loaded. There were water fountains spewing water from statues of men and women's mouths. It looked like Christmas lights were set up in all the bushes and trees along with some colored paper lanterns. Like something out of a fairytale. A Midnight Summers Dream to be exact.
Heads were indeed turning. Cameron had her own way lighting up a room with just her presence, but the dress she wore, with a feather mask, now that was something! Reese recognized a lot of faces. He earned a lot of surprise hugs. Now he was starting to feel more at home, minus the fact that Damien was no longer at his side.
Aden was standing at his side instead. At least it appeared that way. Aden was in a deep conversation just to Reese's left side with a girl named Laura. Laura claimed by The Delicious Duo's number one fan, not that she was creepy in any way. She was also the group leader of the LGBT community group. An active feminist too. There were a lot of admirable things about her.
They were talking like they've known each other for a while. Reese would have never put the pieces together himself.
Aden turned his head in Reese's direction that he turned to look the other way. He just realized he had been staring. That didn't happen often, but these past seven months, this what Reese had been dealing with. It felt like an internal civil war every time.
Reese decided to head inside through the (they looked mile high) double doors. There was a DJ, professional no doubt, playing between two crescent staircases going up to the next floor. Reese wasn't judging any, but he suddenly felt the need to change the station. He was feeling for something, more relaxed than the upbeat music currently playing. Something... acoustic.
Reese took another good look around the room. The expensive looking marble statues lined up near the foot of the stairs, more familiar faces, all who had to walk up and greet him like an old friend. Reese would have never changed what he did, even if it always led to him getting expelled. He would have beaten that guy named Jack up over and over again.
"Good to see you again!"
"Reese! Hey!"
"Sup man?"
He felt like a celebrity. It looked like everyone from his old school was invited here.
"Look at who it is!"
