The reason Harry ruled out being in Ravenclaw is because he tried to grab a letter from the AIR and run with it in is HAND rather than taking one off the FLOOR and either stuffing it up his jumper and being an innocent goody two shoes or stuffing lots it in his jumper and hiding them in various places in his room so he could retrieve at least one later to read.
