Halloween Prank

Chapter 5

A year passes and the three seniors are now freshmen in college, all going to the University of Missouri. Kayla majors in Journalism, Jeremiah is an Art major, and August plays Division I football. It's close to Halloween again and a group of freshmen get together at their lunch to discuss plans for Halloween.

"You guys want to do a Halloween prank on a bunch of other people? We use to do that at my old school for seniors."

"What school did you go to Jake?"

"Fern Ridge High, that school is lame, but the Halloween prank thing was fun," Jake said.

"I wish my old school did that. Man we were lame. 'Go Bulldogs Go!' Psych. Riverview sucked," Robert added.

"Well, for the prank Jake, where would we do it at? I like the idea, but I don't think we have anywhere to do it without getting in trouble," Tracy says getting back onto topic.

"We can do it at my place. My parents own a cabin in the woods for their 'relaxing days' so we can just use that to throw a Halloween party and scare everyone there. Perfect setting too," Jake says, laughing afterwards.

"Sounds cool, I like it. Jeremiah, Kayla, you guys in?" Tracy asks.

"Yea, sure. I'm down!" Kayla responds. "Jeremiah?"

"I'll be free. Let me get August too though, but don't tell that many other people. We have to make this good."

The group cheers at their made plan and Kayla looks to the right of her and sees what appears to be Jessica. She grabs Jeremiah's arm tightly, "Did you see that Jeremiah?"

"See what Kay?" The group overhears the two and looks in the direction that Kayla was looking at.

"Jeremiah I think your girlfriend is scared already. You might want to hold her tighter," Tracy laughs. The entire group starts laughing as well and Kayla stands in anger towards Tracy, fists balled, visioning Tracy as Jessica.

"I'm not afraid of you Jessica. I'll run you over again. Think I'm playing."

"Kayla, Kayla, she was just joking," Jeremiah says as he stands with Kayla. "Come on, let's take a walk."

The couple walks away from the table as the rest of the group murmur about what just happened.

"Kayla," Jeremiah started.

"I know what you're going to say; 'why did I snap like that on Tracy'. It was an accident. So don't say it please."

"Actually, I was going to ask, are you ok?" He asks confused.

"Tired, I guess. I don't know," she sighs. "It doesn't matter. I'm going to go apologize to Tracy and go take a nap. See you later."

Jeremiah grabs Kayla by the arm gently and stops her. He pulls her in closer, she standing right in front of him. He leans to kiss her on her forehead and hugs her saying, "We're going to be ok. I promise."

Kayla walks away to apologize to Tracy and Jeremiah stays behind, watching as she leaves. Jeremiah continues to watch her walk away but suddenly sees Jessica walk right passed Kayla towards him. He squints to see if he is imagining her, and as some people pass in front of him, Jessica vanishes and Jeremiah leaves to tell August of the party.
