2015 Community Testimonials

Hey guys, Scarlet here again. These Community Testimonials are meant to be a replacement for the Special Awards, but this is a sort of trial run for them. We may move back to Special Awards in 2016, we might not; it all depends on what the staff feels is best for the future of the club.

The following anonymous recommendations are from people in the community and represent their feelings on some of the categories that we used for the Special Awards. The shift to the Testimonials was a late happening in the contest, so I predict that we'll have more responses IF the Awards Staff decides to do the Testimonials again.

Note, these are not "official" awards, but more of a review/ something one would see on the back of a book, like a quote from the New York Times or Oprah or something.

***MILD SPOILER ALERT***

Most Thought ProvokingOne Testimonial

I would like to nominate Diaries of the Fragile by affray  for the fic that's the Most Thought-Provoking. This emotional story of trauma, loss, friendship, and gratitude really moved me to tears (not that my reaction is counted as thought-provoking). Affray has this method where the protagonist (Veronica) is at a vulnerable stage and recovering the death of her best friend; it is later on deciphered that she is not only traumatized with the incident, but she blames herself on what happened. It's quite tragic that later on during her recovery that I discovered that the people she's associating with in the hospital are the most friends she's had in a lifetime. Once she leaves the hospital, she reflects to herself how sad and injust life is, but then she realizes that she cannot control fate and one must accept their life and the friendships they make. Overall, Diaries of the Fragile will burn in my memory, forever reminding me that there is no way to avoid getting hurt, but to also find closure to the tragedies and forge new memories despite the lamenting and misfortune.

Fic with Best Plot TwistTwo Testimonials

I would like to nominate/write a testimonial for To Steal The Heart Of A Thief as fic with the best plot twist. The plot twist in question is the (spoiler alert) revealing of the fact that Ice is Rena's brother. This plot twist was masterfully hidden yet hinted at, and revealed in a shocking surprise. To Steal The Heart Of A Thief is definitely a promising candidate in the Best Plot Twist category of the testimonial awards.

This is a testimonial for A Journey's End for Fic with the Best Plot Twist. Really, it's as though almost the entire story is a plot twist, building off of the story of the Pokémon anime. For me, the twist was totally unexpected, very surprising, and even mysterious at first. When it all made sense to me in the end, I found that I really enjoyed it.

Fic with Best Dark/Scary MomentsOne Testimonial

This is a testimonial for Reign of Rain for Fic with the Best Dark/Scary/Horrific Moments. You only need to read the first chapter to see how dark this book can get. It gets even worse at later moments, certainly going into horrific, particularly in the story arc surrounding Luna. Even so, the book is good enough to make you want to keep reading it even through the moments that are so awful you can barely stand it. If any book deserves this title, it's this one!

Fic with Best Sad/Somber Moments  Two Testimonials

I'd like to submit a testimonial for A Lillipup's Love for the category of Fic with the Best Sad/Somber Moments. There were a lot of sad stories that I read in the one shot and short story categories, but this one almost made me cry. The main character is so sweet and innocent. He won my sympathy from the very beginning. The very believable and yet heart-breaking mistrust he shows in the second chapter only goes farther to prove the strength of his eventual affection for Rachel, which, in turn, makes the ending even more sad.

I would like to nominate "Some Wounds Never Heal." I believe this should get the award because of how descriptive it is, along with the plot line based off of how Eevee's siblings had promised it each, and then died or disappeared. The book was based off of this fact, and how descriptive it was and how this book made you feel the sadness shows me that I think this deserves the award. The sad moments are well written to get readers to think of what the main character is feeling and shows true sadness and heart. This is why I think "Some Wounds Never Heal" (by SnowySerenade) deserves the sad/somber award.

Fic with Best Written Setting & Best Written Characters One Testimonial

I would like to submit a testimonial for Nights Without Arceus by Sheare for the Best Written Characters and the story with the Best Written Setting. The book has by far one of the most original and intriguing settings out of all the entries I have read. It incorporates the setting of another franchise and merges it with the Pokemon universe to create something magical. It is a great foundation for the plot and characters. The characters Sheare writes in are incredibly well-written with complex issues and pasts that follow them throughout the entire book. She not only inserts canon characters, but expands their personalities and canon backgrounds to assist in her storytelling. Akira, the one original character in her book, serves as a character to allow the side characters to shine-- those side characters are what make the book brilliant.

***END OF SPOILERS***

Thank you to all the people who sent in testimonials. We hope to see more testimonials if we do this again next year, but please comment onto if you guys want us to try this again next year but with more notice.
