Scarlet here!

Sorry this is so brief and late guys, I've been enjoying my time off and forgot to post.

My honorable mention is Harmony at Last by InspiredTerragon as I thought a Pokemon Go fanfic was a really neat idea. Check it out!

Fairy's honorable mention is Lantern by izayoix

The oneshot Lantern revolves around story of the unnamed trainer and his/her Meowstic. It focuses on the unnamed trainer's feelings as she struggles to handle the situation after learning about his/her Meowstic has suffered from irreversible injuries— injuries that wouldn't have happened if she had released the Meowstic back into the wilderness.

The title is actually a metaphor, rather than a literal lantern or a lantern Pokemon as I expected upon reading the description and title. It symbolizes the trainer comparing herself to a lantern, who became broken upon finding out the injuries the Meowstic has suffered.

Lantern is written in such a way that the reader could deeply feel the regrets of the trainer, the struggles of accepting the truth that their beloved Pokemon had no chance of recovery. It is strongly expressed that the trainer feels worthless and finds difficulty in accepting her Pokemon's fate, knowing that she never deserved Meowstic's respect at all.

I couldn't help but feel heartbroken for the trainer when Meowstic woke up and had no memory of her. Sure, the trainer was at fault for releasing her Pokemon, and maybe she didn't deserve to be acknowledged at all, but being completely forgotten by someone who you desire forgiveness because of the irreversible damage you had caused is even more painful than not being forgiven at all.

Similar to a human losing its pet because of its owner's rash actions, Lantern is a magnificent example of how a person struggles to accept the painful truth after the result of his/her regrettable actions.

This oneshot may not have been the best, but neither was it the worst so I'm quite disappointed when I found out that it wasn't at least in the Top 5. Overall, this oneshot was beautifully written, and the emotion expressed in every word was enough to touch my heart.

To the author, I must tell you that I splendidly admire "Lantern". More power to your writing skills! Good luck for the 2017 Pokemon Watty Awards as well, if you are joining again.  :D
