     Chapter 6

Megan

Today was already a bad day for Megan, last night's dream was weirder than usual, not only because it felt even more real than the others but because she woke up drowning, water exploding from her mouth. Once recovered, she sat shaking on her bed, feeling scared and vulnerable.  She felt like she was going insane. She sat there for a few hours, eventually  forcing herself to take a shower, the warm water soothing her shaking muscles and cold goose bumpy skin. After about ten minutes Megan finished up and changed, dragging her tired tormented body to school where her day went from weird to completely insane.

After Rosie and Coach Hedge had run off to fight the Empousai, Archie and Megan had done their best to fortify the small clearing around the fire place. They had moved some desks blocking off the entrances, and stacked chairs on top of them. The sound of hissing and coach yelling "cupcake", was getting closer. Megan looked over at Pearl who was kneeling down in the fire pit, chanting some weird sounding words, her back pack spewed out over the floor.

"How long until you've finished.... whatever it is you are doing?" Megan asked

Pearl didn't reply straight away due to her chanting, then she said " a few more minutes" and went straight back to chanting

"I don't think that's going to be possible" Archie gulped, As he said this Rosie came sprinting down the walk way, an Empousai hobbling right behind her. Megan had left a small gap under one of the desks so Rosie and Hedge could get through. Rosie noticed this, increasing speed then expertly sliding under the desk narrowly dodging the Empousais grasp, with Archie quickly sliding a chair into the gap blocking off the Empousai.

"Where's hedge?" Megan said

Rosie breathed heavily attempting to catch her breath, her dark hair was messy and her jacket slightly torn but besides that she looked fine.

"He was... right behind me.." she panted, then added "can't....stop..them... too strong"

Suddenly the Empousai which had been chasing Rosie burst through the barricade, chairs flying everywhere.

"Well there goes our defences" muttered Megan

Archie laughed "dang girl I knew you were ugly before but, I don't think the world's best plastic surgeon could fix them legs, I say go back to the bin diver look, it suited you"

The demon hissed angrily, she kicked Archie sending him flying through the air screaming, until he smashed into a large book shelf, causing it to wobble immensely.  

Archie groaned "feisty"

The Empousai hissed then charged, suddenly the book shelf began to topple and Archie quickly rolled out of the way, the demon wasn't so lucky. It turned, trying to run but the shelf engulfed her coming down with an almighty (CRASH), the Empousai obliterated into golden dust.

Archie fist punched the air yelling "A-man  1, Vampire donkey  0!"
Megan ran over to him "you alright?" she said

"I'm good, a little winded, but I'll live"

"Nice one Arch" Rosie gently thumped him on the shoulder.

Suddenly,  Coach Hedge came flying over one of the book shelves, as soon as he hit the floor he shot to his hoofs and yelled " hey... which one of you demon's threw me, come on try it again I dear ya! "

On que, the three other Empousai entered the clearing, hissing and angry.
"We gotta go... Now! "Megan ordered

Pearl broke her chanting and said "can't... more time"

"We don't have any more time"

Coach clenched his fists "leave it to me'' he lurched forward but Rosie and Archie pulled him back.

"There's three of them and one of you "Archie said "it's suicide!''

"Suicide's my middle name, let me at them"

The Empousai began closing in, their fangs itching to sink into flesh. Megan wracked her brain for a solution, a way to buy Pearl more time but there was nothing, her mind was blank, they would be dead in seconds.

"Everyone,  fire place now!" Megan ordered, the four of them quickly huddled around Pearl  who was still chanting.

The middle Empousai laughed "look at them, cowards. All huddled up like sardines"

"mmm sardines " the Empousai to the left said.

The middle demon hissed at her "shut up!"

Rosie spoke up "why are you trying to kill us?''

The middle Empousai replied "mistress needs the shadowed one"

''Yeah, you said that before, who is the shadowed one?"

The three Empousai hissed in unison, which seemed like laughter " never you mind girl, we only need the one of you to lead us to him, and now I have changed my mind. The boy with the loud mouth killed our sister, so we shall take him instead. Then once we have no more use for him we will devourer his soul. "

Archie laughed sarcastically "Ha! Sorry there 'beautiful' but I'm ginger and gingers don't have soul's, so I'm gonna have to pass on the soul devouring"

Every one stared at him.

''Seriously? "Rosie said"

Archie shrugged

"Enough!'' The middle Empousai hissed "get the boy, kill the rest!"

The Empousai prepared to pounce, but Pearl sprung up throwing some sort of glass tube which exploded into green fire. One of the demons erupted into flames, the other two backing away quickly, hissing.

The heat was immense and Megan could feel herself already starting to sweat.

"What the hell was that?" Archie screamed

"Greek fire" Pear replied, then added "ok we're ready to go "

The Empousai hissed over the flames "foolish Half-bloods, you may escape us now but you will fall. Your Lady's plan will fail, the shadowed one will unite the hour glass and your camp will burn a purple death."

Megan then stood there terrified, it wasn't because of the Empousai, nor was it the green large deadly  flames surrounding them, but in that split second a memory had sparked in her mind, a memory of death and suffering, a memory of Purple fire... PURPLE DEATH. She was terrified because   everything that had just happened, she'd seen in a dream the week before... and she knows what happens next.

Pearl then lights a match, drops it and the five of them are engulfed by Orange flames.
