Chapter 9 Elliott

Chapter 9

Pearl shot to her feet " Thalia?" pearl laughed, wiping the tears from her eyes "how longs it been?"

"years, not since the Titan war" she replied

Thalia was still holding out her hand to Elliott, offering to help him up. He decided to take her hand, seeing as she was now friendly. But as their skin touched, something seemed to spark through him, it felt forbidden, exhilarating and wrong, it felt bad but Elliott loved it. Her palm was firm but soft, her grip strong but gentle. With her help he pulled himself up, not letting go of her hand. Elliott found himself lost in her stormy blue eyes as if a hurricane was pulling him in and he was letting it. They were both in a trance, lost in each other's gaze. It seemed she was feeling the same forbidden, yet exhilarating emotions as he was. She then pulled away, his hand slipping from hers, the spark being extinguished immediately.

Thalia blinked quickly and Elliott coughed awkwardly, putting his fingers through his chestnut hair.
"I'm Elliott" he said "I think?" he added

Thalia's face was once again serious and strong "what do you mean, you think?" she asked

Pearl joined them standing beside both of them, forming a kind of triangle .

"he's" Pearl took a deep breath holding back more tears "he's lost his memory" she managed

"what, you mean like Percy and Jason" Thalia asked.

pearl nodded

"was it Hera?"

"no its a long story" Pearl said

"Ok, let us set up camp and you can explain everything"

"wait" Elliott said "who's us?"

Thalia smiled "me and my girls"

As she said this, one by one girls dressed in white stalked out of the forest, stepping into the burnt clearing. Equipped with bows and arrows the same as Thalia, some also riding large white wolves.

Elliott turned staring at them

"who are you people?" Elliott stammered

Thalia grinned once again "We are the hunters of Artemis. Now, let's get this camp setup !"

The hunters moved like the wind, within minutes they had thrown up large silvery tents and lit a warm crackling fire, the sky turning a golden red as the sun began to set. The tents were laid out side by side , with the fire burning directly in the centre, surrounded by logs used for seating.

Once the Camp was finished Thalia had Megan, Archie , Rosie and coach Hedge taken to the medical tent to be treated for any injuries. When they went , Thalia took Elliott and Pearl into her tent so they could talk in private.

As Elliott entered he examined his surroundings, the tent was mostly empty apart from a beautifully carved wooden desk and a large fur rug. As the three of them took a seat at the desk Elliott asked "so, the hunters of Artemis what do you do exactly?"

"In short we hunt monsters" Thalia answered, she then continued " Artemis is the Goddess of the Moon and the hunt, so we hunt stuff" she shrugged.

"why are you all girls?" Elliott said curiously

Thalia smiled at this question " Artemis is a virgin goddess, and she isn't the biggest fan of men. So only girls can join and by doing so you become immortal unless you fall in battle" Thalia placed her legs up on the desk, crossing them then carried on "that's why there are girls of all ages in the hunt, you stay the age you were when you joined, which is why I'm still fifteen when i should be about eighteen. Oh and as Artemis is a virgin Goddess we are forbidden from dating boys" she added winking at Elliott. Well that explants the forbidden feeling he felt earlier he thought. Pearl coughed awkwardly "any way" Thalia said uncrossing her legs and taking them off the table "pearl why don't you start from the beginning?"

Pearl explained how her and the others had been attacked at their school by Empousai, whatever that was Elliott didn't know, but they sounded nasty. As she was explaining how they escaped, he looked over at her and an odd feeling of pride over came him, he wasn't sure why but he was proud of her. She then went on to talk about Hestia, repeating what Hestia had told them. Once she was finished Thalia stayed silent for a moment , a curious expression on her face, then she spoke " very weird, and what the Empousai said about their mistress and the camp burning is... concerning, ''Hestia is right we need to get you to camp" then she looked over at Elliott "and Hestia taking your memories , saying your soul was black, and if you remember who you are, we will all die! I'm not sure how but I have a feeling this is all connected"

Pearl nodded "me too"

Thalia sighed "well you guys need rest, we will leave for camp first thing."

They all stood up ready to leave when Elliott noticed a large banner with an Eagle on it, hung on one of the tent walls "symbol of zeus, Right?" Elliott asked pointing to the golden banner

"Right, how did you know?" Thalia said curiously

Elliott tried to remember but suddenly a searing pain shot through his head, he winced "Ahh" he held his hand to his forehead "I can't quite remember" he said confused wincing again then added "but I just know, same reason all this talk about gods and stuff doesn't confuse me it just... it feels right, like I already know they exist but if I try to remember how I know, my head goes crazy"

Pearls Face looked concerned for him but Thalias face was filled with worry, not for him however but for what this could mean. Then Pearls face turned to the same expression as Thalias, she said "wait, when I last saw you a year ago you had no idea that the gods existed" her face changed again, this time to pure fear and terror "what happened to you this past year?"

Thalia took a deep breath, stared directly at Elliott then muttered "isn't that the question of the day"
