Chapter 5. Moonlight Hunt

16 Months later

Carolin watched her two sisters sit and talk with Scorch. Angora and Kayler are both old enough now to have a mate which now means the Alpha, Scorch, gets to choose a mate and no other male in the pack is allowed to have one. Carolin has seen this kind of pack before, she believes it to be ridiculous and unfair to the other males in the pack. I'm surprised that Blitz and Dagger even stick around, she thought, the way Scorch runs this pack is crazy and reckless. She thought about life in the pack since she joined. Every decision that he has made has been reckless and gotten this pack into trouble. Quarrels with a larger pack, trying to take on three pumas and for "age initiation" made Angora sleep outside of the territory. Carolin huffed and laid down in the soft, lush grass.
She turned her head to see Blitz walking up to her. She and Blitz had grown very close since they had joined the pack and loved the company that he gave her. "Hey Carolin", he began," why aren't you over there with your sisters?" Carolin looked over at Scorch talking with Kayler and Angora. "He's explaining to them what choosing day is I guess", she said," I guess he thought I already knew what it was, which I do, also he isn't a big fan if me so there's another reason not to talk to me." Blitz to a quick look around and spoke again. "Do you want to go hunting with me then?" He asked quietly. Carolin's eyes lit up. "Sure, that sounds fun and maybe we can catch something big so we can show up Scorch." Blitz grinned at her and just like that, she and Blitz had disappeared into the forest.

Time passed quickly as the moon rose high into the skies above. They hadn't found anything since they left at sun down. Carolin was not about to go back empty pawed, she searched every bush and every tree but still found nothing. "I think we need to go back now", said Blitz,"its getting later by the minute and we are reaching the next opening." Carolin stopped and turned to face him. "The next opening is where we are going to find large prey", she stated," I can almost guarantee it." She kept walking. "Almost?" Blitz murmured to himself and chased after Carolin. Once they had both reached the opening, Carolin sniffed the air and pressed an ear to the earth. Then she took off in a full sprint. Blitz chased after her. "What is it Carolin?" He asked. Carolin jumped onto something and it began to squeal. That's when he knew that she had sniffed out a fairly large Wild Boar. Carolin, refusing to let go, held onto the back of this pig. She saw out the corner of her eye, Blitz watching her in awe not knowing what to do. "Run back to the pack," she barked ,"I have a plan but I need you to run!" Blitz nodded and took of running back into the forest. Carolin let the boar throw her off then she ran, the boar hot on her tail. She ran into the opening where her pack had been sleeping and lead the boar straight at a tree. The whole pack watched in terror, thinking she was going to be smashed against the tree. At the last second, Carolin jumped onto the back of the boar and let crash into the giant tree, the breaking of its neck declaring it dead. Carolin has flown off the second it hit the tree and was now IN the tree the pig had met its death with. "Carolin," snarled a voice ,"why did you bring this dangerous creature into our home? That was dangerous and you could've gotten us killed as well as yourself." She turned to see that the voice belonged to none other than Scorch. Carolin looked down at him from the tree. "You haven't taken any of us hunting in a week, much less let us go," she growled back,"I was either going to die starving because you wouldn't go hunting or I could die feeding my pack and knowing they got to eat." She stood tall and proud on her branch. Scorch stared up at her. "Well, what are you waiting for," she said and came down, pulled off a leg and went back up into the tree,"dig in everyone." She began gnawing on the boar leg while the wolves below her feasted on the large meal. Scorch watched her in shock and awe. Blitz found his way up the tree to her. Carolin looked down upon Scorch intently and made sure that he knew that she was never going to change. Never.
