-kirdybby(:"What the fuck is all the yelling about in my house?" My dad roared
"Dale, yous son is bena a coo-yon to krissy an hur friends." My grandma told my dad that Dustin was being stupid and mean.
"Baby girl I'm sorry. Dustin go to your room, or get out of my house"
"Daddy its fine. He's just mad." I tried to stand up for Dustin.
"Dammit Krissy don't treat me like a child, you either dad. I'm the oldest fucking kid and I get no reconition. Its always miss Krissy, miss perfect." Dustin was yelling at me, getting pretty close, so Tony stepped in.
"Mr Dale I don't mean to disrespect your house, but Dustin if you take one more step toward your sister I personally will drag you out of this house and to the road and let you get in my face, we can see how far that goes. This is a family issue and me and my men will stay out of it. Krissy can tend to her own problems, but when her safety is being questioned, I will step in, throwing all my family morals away. We are clear on that yes?"Tony said now standing beside me.Dustin and Tony starred at each other for about two minutes, Dustin broke, leaving the house and slamming the door as he left.
"Eryone come now let's eat yea!" My grandma said breaking threw the awkward silence.
Everyone sat down at the table and fixed there plate. I looked around and was amazed at what I saw. Tony and dad were in a deep conversation of sports and laughter. My grandparents talked to the guys about there culture and even tried teaching them some Cajun French. Everyone was praising my grandmother on her cooking. Each person around the table had a smile on there face, and that fact made me happier than I have ever been. Knowing that my family accepted my new family made my heart warm.
After dinner maw fixed coffee for everyone and we all sat on the porch. My grandparents hand in hand on the swing with my dad beside them. Some of the guys were on rockers and other sat on the steps. Tony sat on the edge of the porch facing my grandparents and dad. He had one leg on the porch and it was bent at the knee with his arm propped on his knee, the other leg was dangaling off the porch and he was leaning against one of the many big white poles that went along the porch. I was sitting in the middle of his legs, my back and head rest against his chest.
My grandparents and dad were telling everyone of our childhood and reminissing on old time. Soon my maw was telling everyone that when I was a kid, I couldn't go to sleep without her and paw telling me the Cajun night before Christmas story, no matter time of year it was.
"Well now I have to hear this story" Johnny boy said threw laughter. And everyone aggreed.
"No no. Come on guys Christmas isn't for another two months" I tried talking everyone out of it.
"Come on baby, I would like to hear it. I love all this Cajun stuff" Tony said kissing my face. I smiled and agreed catching a glimpse of my dads face. He was smiling at us. And at that moment, I knew my dad approved of Tony and I. I also knew that he knew who Tony was. But despite my dad knowing he was a potentionl danger to me, my dad saw threw all the negative, my dad saw Tony and I as what we were. In love. No matter what the future brings, no matter how my life changes, one thing will not. My love for Tony. And I could only pray that Tony's love for me wouldn't falter."Twas the night before Christmas an' all t'ru de house,
Dey don't a ting pass Not even a mouse.
De chirren been nezzle good snug on de flo',
An' Mama pass de pepper t'ru de crack on de do'." I heard my grandma begin to tell the old story I heard every night as a little girl."De Mama in de fireplace done roas' up de ham,
Sit up de gumbo an' make de bake yam.
Den out on de by-you dey got such a clatter,
Make soun' like old Boudreau done fall off his ladder."By the second verse everyone was laughing, maw would make hand gersters and my paw would finish her sentences.
In the middle of the story my dad caught my attention and motioned for me to follow him.
We walked off the porch only a few feet away from everyone. He had a worried look in his eyes, witch made me stand to attention.
"Dustin loves you baby girl."
"Dad, I know Dustin loves me and I love him, I always will"
My dad always hated when the family fought. Especially when it came down to me and my brothers. He was our glue, always making us see past whatever had us arguing and to the fact that our love for one another was greater.
"Dad Dustin was always who I looked up to. And I guess now I want him to try. And he's not. I want better for him."
Dustin really was the person to look up to growing up. And I did, maybe to much looking back now. He was the popular guy in school, always getting the girl, the star football player. He was who all the other guys wanted to be. And I was his little sister, he always protected me, that making me just as popular as him. I truly don't know what happen for all of that to change. He graduated and then just went down hill. If I had to guess it would be the previous relationship he was in. Dustin was head over heels for the girl. He loved her and that was a big deal to everyone. Dustin wasn't the type to settle down. She ended up cheating on him and from that point forward he has always turned to alcohol. Witch resorted in me beating her ass once."I know he's a different person now, but we can't give up on him, he needs our help. He needs to get out of this town, there's nothing but bad memory's hear for him, but he has no money and I don't have enough money to help him."
I knew what I needed to do. I could offer for Dustin to come to New York with me. I new Tony would help.
"I can help with that, where is he?"
"I can almost garentee he's at lake, where y'all use to play when you where little"I grabbed my dads keys from his hand, and grabbed my phone, from where I was previously sitting. I don't know why but I had a urgency to get to dustin and give him this offer, and quick.
I kissed Tony, and left. He knew I was doing something I needed to.
I heard Dustin before I saw him. He was sitting in the tall grass and I could hear him cry. Its been a very long time since I heard him cry. My eyes filled with tears.
"Why?" I heard him cry. That was the moment the tears came from my eyes. Growing up my grandparents always taught us to never ask why. Never ask God why something happened to us, because he has a plan. Everything that happens to us is part of God plan and we were never to question it. And I haven't. Neither has dustin until now. I knew he was hurt and to think I had something to do with this, broke my heart into a million pieces."Dustin." I wisperd loud enough so he could hear me.
He jumped and and turned to me. His eyes blood shot, tears streaming down his face. That's when I saw it. I saw the almost empty alcohol bottle of tequila in his hand, but that's not what caught my eye. Dustin was emotionally unstable and he had a gun in his hand.
