The next morning I woke up to the smell of bacon cooking. Right on que my stomach growled.
Getting up noticing Tony not in bed,I got dressed.
Walking downstairs everyone was around the table eating the feast my grandmother made."We'll gud morden Chere"' my maw said giving me a kiss on the check.
Sitting down I had a great idea. "Paw, would it be okay if we took your boat to the bayou today to show Tony and his friends around?"
He chuckled "dats a great idea yes, day woulds loves de bayou"
Everyone agreed to go, it was a fan boat, sometimes used for bayou touring, so everyone would fit fine.I was in the process of helping clean up when I heard my name yelled from behind me.
"Oh my goodness, Abby??!!"
"Yes, its been what? 2 years?"
"Yes I thought you were in Georgia?"
"I was I just got home and mama told me you where hear"
We embraceed, jumping up and down around the kitchen. Abby was my cousin. My first cousin, we were more like bestfriends growing up.After introducing her to Tony and his men, I invited her to go on the bayou with us.
The entire two hours on the boat was comical, really. There are hundreds of alligators in the bayou, there's two important fact everyone should know about gators. One they can jump up to three feet out of the water and tread the water with there hind legs, and two alligators love marshmellows.
To see a grow man, with muscles from head to toe and everywhere in between jump on the lap of my grandmother, when he saw a alligator jump out of the water, was enough to make me almost fall over bored in laughter.By the end of our tour, we had several gators following us because Johnny boy thought it was just amazing , that the alligators loved marshmallows. He ended up feeding them six bags. After baby face warned him that if the gators chased us when we got off the boat he was going to be the first to be gator food, he stopped feeding them.
Seeing these guys, especially Tony loving my homeland was beyond exciting to me. I couldn't get enough of how amazed they were at everything they saw. Before now I didn't think there was to much extrodnarry about my home. I realize that it's all about how new something is. They have never seen anything like this, it was foreign to them, as new York was foreign to me. Its moments like these that make me appreciate everything I'm blessed with a thousand times more.
It was already noon when we got off the boat and decided to go to lunch. I noticed Abby and Vince walking beside each other talking, come to think of it they talked the entire tour. I secretly hope something amazing came out of the two of them, even if it was only a friendship.
After lunch we all went home. Everyone was tired so they decided to go lay down for awhile, abby staying to watch a movie with Vince.
Tony and I decided to sit on the swing for awhile. After I fixed us both a glass of ice tea he sat one side of the swing and I sat on the other with my legs propped up on his lap. We sat in comfortable silence.
Tony was the first to speak after five minutes."It really is lovely hear, peaceful"
"Yes it is. I love it hear"
"Would you get married hear?"
"My homeland? Absolutely. I would love to get married hear, mostly because its beautiful, but also because my grandparents, are not city people at all and they would feel uncomfortable there."
He nodded his head thinking about it in agreement.
"Would you like to get married hear?" I asked him.
"I would want to get married, anywhere you were. As long as it was you walking down the isle to me" I blushed at his comment.
"Tell me, how have you dreamed of getting asked the big question." I had to think about his question for a second.
"I don't know, iv never really though about it. Something thoughtful, something I know that the person asking me put thought in to. Not the simple on the knee marry me thing. I don't know I've just always wanted to be able to tell my love storry, and have people awe at me."
He laughed at my response.
"Ok noted. How about your wedding, what's your dream wedding.""Hmm, know this i have thought about a lot. I have so many different ways tho. But all in all I want a vintage, country theme. Something classy, beautiful, yet fun."
He was looked at me for a few seconds before kissing me.
"Why dont you go try to take a nap bambino, I have some work I need to tend to, some calls I have to make and then I will be there" I nooded at him going upstairs,
I was very tired. It wasn't long before sleep took me.
Once I woke I didn't know how long I had been sleeping but I could see the sun was going down. Great I'll never be able to sleep tonight I thought.
There was a knock on my door.
"Come in"
Johnny boy comes hands me a folded piece of paper.
"What's this?"
"Read it. I'll be waiting outside." Okay then?
I opened the note and it was perfect hand writting.'Get dressed into something pretty, something you. Ten minutes, then follow Johnny boy. I'll be waiting.
I love you bambino. -Tony'What has he got planned? My neves were starting to act up. I rushed to my closent. Something me? I thought looking at all my clothes. I picked my favorite dress. The top was strapless, white and tight fitting, and it went into a frilly cream colored floral skirt and was seperates by a brown belt, and i matched it with my bluejean jacket. I brushed my hair, witch was still straight from the day. I put on some light make up and matched my out fit with my brown boots. I was ready. And very nervous.
I walked out of the room and Johnny was waiting, I followed him to his truck.
"Where are we going?"
"You'll see"
The rest of the short ride was silent. We got to the place were me and my brothers use to play as children it was mostly wooded. I got out confused."Johnny what is going on?"
He pulled out a daisy, handed it to me, and told me to follow him. I suddenly heard music, and recognized the song. God Bless the Broken road by Rascle Flats. My eyes had to adjust to what I was seeing. In the path leading to the lake, every tree was wrapped with white Christmas lights, as far as I could see. It was beyond beautiful. Every couple of steps my family and our friends, would step from behind one of the trees that were brightly lite up, and hand me a flower, singing the song. I was in tears. What was this about?
The path was ending and my grandma was the last to give me a daisy, and a note. I hurried and opened the note.
'I put a lot of thought into this bambino. Your my only. Look in the middle of the lake.'Tears were streaming down my face as I looked up to the lake. Tony was in a boat, kneeling, on one knee. I knew what was happening.
He started talking loud enough where everyone on the bank could hear him.
"Krissy, I know that the short time we have been together has not been all dasiys, and our time together may never be all Daisys, but I, Krissy have loved you sence I looked in your eyes, in the awfully long line. Krissy I can make you happy. You have already given me a life time of happnies even of you say no, but I want the pleasure of spending forever with you. There's no one else in this world that could hold my heart prisoner like you are. Iv never wanted anyone, much less want someone as much as I want you, for the rest of my life. Krissy I was not alive, until you. You have given me life, let me try and make you as happy as you make me. Let me stand beside you, give me the pleasure of standing beside me. Marry me?" He asked holding out the ring.I was sobbing uncontrollably.
"Yes, tony, yes!" I yelled.
He jumped out of the boat and swam the small distance, grabbing my face and kissing me. Letting me know how happy he was and how much he loved me.Everyone cheered, and congratulated.
