EPILOGUE

A year later

“So, Hawkins, tell me, how does it feel to be a grandpa?” Lena teased Hawkins who’s been a father to her since saving her twelve years ago.

“I’m only thirty-eight baby girl. No one will dare call me a grandpa,” Hawkins teased back, holding Lena and Matt’s child in his bulky arms.

“If you don’t want to be a grandpa then how do you feel about being a godfather?” Matt asked.

“I’ll be honored,” he said, cooing at his goddaughter. “Why don’t I take her out of the room and show her to the other guys so you two can have a little privacy?” he added winking to his one and only baby girl.

“Thank you Hawk, for everything,” Lena told him seriously.

“No problem baby girl,” Hawkins answered before closing the door.

“How are you feeling?” she heard her husband ask.

“Wonderful. She’s absolutely perfect,” she said smiling up at him while he hovered over her.

“You were pretty wonderful too while giving birth to our first-born,” Matt said while sitting down beside her on the hospital bed.

“We both know I was awful, but you were great with the coaching. Sorry if I shouted at you and if I called you names,” Lena apologized with a smile.

Matt chuckled and said, “I was trying hard not to laugh when you threatened to kill me yourself for putting you through all that pain.”

“I promise I didn’t mean it, any of it,” she reassured him.

“I know. I seem to remember your wedding vows to protect me for the rest of our lives. In fact, it’s written in our marriage contract,” he joked.

“I remember too. And I promise I won’t forget that vow,” she said before kissing him softly in the lips.

“You better not Mrs. Matthew Masen. You’re stuck protecting me forever,” Matt growled continuing their kiss.
