CHAPTER TEN : “Unfinished Business”

[ALENA’S POV]

After tackling the more general topics to be discussed, Damon Lynch dismissed everyone except for five of his best agents; Louis Hawkins, Alena Harris, Jake Calloway, Francis Wells and Samantha Sparks.

“I’m afraid I have bad news for Alena,” Damon said, addressing everyone, but looking only at her.

“I just need two partners, Damon. I’m sure I can handle Alpha if I’m not too worried with Matt. If I know someone’s with him then I can focus during a fight and my two partners can handle anyone else who’s after us,” she said, trying to convince Damon.

“We know that, Lena. But another complication has come up. I just found out that the son of your last target in Mexico is sending the best of his dad’s hunters after you,” Damon said, grimly.

“What?!” she sputtered.

“Your reputation is all over the world Lena and it seems as if he connected you to your past assignments because of the same M.O. and he found out about your short hospital stay in Panama a year ago. Unfortunately, someone accidentally took your picture while you were there and he saw it. He knows what you look like, Lena.”

“So you’re saying that I have to finish this “complication” first?” she said, realising what Damon wanted her to do.

“Exactly. You’ll have to take care of it since it’s your mess.”

“I know, but what about Matthew? He’s my job too.”

“I’m afraid I’ll have to assign Samantha and Hawkins to Matthew’s case. He’ll have to go back to Peak’s Hollow in two days time for Sadie Reed’s hearing.”

“Then what about Jake and Francis? Can’t they deal with Mexico for me?”

“I’m afraid not, Lena. I’ll be assigning them to Matt’s family since his client already has three of our agents with her and her sister. Besides Lena, if you were to stay with Matthew during this crucial time then the guys after you might get to him too. There are too many assassins after him, without adding these goons from Mexico. Think about it, Lena. If you’re with him then he’d be in even more danger than he already is,” Damon reasoned.

Realising Damon was right, she agreed with his decision and told him that she’d like to start on her mission as soon as possible.

“Lena, this mission you’re about to take will be one of the most dangerous missions you’ll ever take. As of right now, there are more than twenty trained killers after you, most of them are a step from being Levels A. You can’t take this lightly,” Damon warned her.

“I know. I promise I’ll be careful, Damon. You don’t have to tell me how dangerous this is. I’ve been up against some of those killers you mentioned on my last mission and I know how good they are.”

“We’ll have to think of our attack first before going there,” Damon said.

“We? You mean you’re going with me?” she asked, surprised with Damon’s revelation.

“I won’t let you go there alone. And right now I’m the best you can have with you. We can also bring a couple other guys with us. We’ll have to choose two other men we trust the most. As I’ve said, this is a very dangerous mission.”
