"Mia. Come over here. You have to see this."I followed the sound of my best friend's voice over to the conference room where we would be getting our wings. "I wonder what shape mine will be." Lauren said."I hope you get the hummingbird wings." I joke.Hummingbird wings were literally the worst type of wings to receive. They were meant for short distance flying and hovering ten inches off the ground. They were usually given to the angels who caused trouble in the academy.
"No way! That would be horrible." Lauren whispered."Lauren Ranelli. Please report to Conference Room A," Boomed a voice."Wish me luck!" She said. "I will." I promised.Mia Lavier, please report to Conference Room B."The intercom boomed.Oh no. This was it. The moment of truth.
I walked through the deserted hallway. As I walked, I couldn't help but thinking of my mom and dad. What were they thinking when they walked down this corridor? Were they watching over me now? I felt tears spring up and forced them back down. I couldn't afford to get distracted now.
I took a deep breath and stepped inside the room. Ten pairs of eyes stared me down. I gulped and looked down at my feet. "Miss Lavier, please step forward."I stepped onto the circle in the middle of the room."Mia. You were one of the top angels in our program. We are quite impressed with your work and we hope that you will like the wings we have chosen for you. Now, please stand up straight and don't move."
The air started to shimmer and I saw a bright light shine around me. There was a tingling on my back and I braced myself for the wing attachment. Suddenly, the light disappeared, leaving me in total darkness. "What's happening?" I yell. There was a shrill noise in the room. I dropped down to my knees, the sound was so intense. I suddenly felt a searing pain in my back. As I drifted into unconsciousness, I saw a black silhouette in the distance.+++
