I woke up to a ringing in my ears. Where was I? The last thing I remembered was Daniel with his hands around my neck. Wincing, I touched the rawness of my skin. Why would Daniel of all people do this to me?
I looked around. All around me were metal bars. I glanced up and saw that there were bars above me as well. It seemed to be some sort of cage. There was straw on the floor. I saw a bucket in the corner and shuddered. My God. What was this place?
"Ugh, what..."
I whipped around.
"Hello?! Onyx, is that you?" I peered into the darkness. I saw an outline of a body in the cage next to me.
"Mia...What are you doing here? What is this place?" He groaned.
I rushed to the side of the cage closest to him. Reaching through the bars, I tried to touch him. Oof! I looked back and saw my ankle attached to a chain that was hooked on the wall. I couldn't reach him.
"Onyx. Help. Please." I whimpered.
He raised his head and gasped.
"Mia, what happened to your neck?" He asked.
"It was Daniel. He surprised me. I blacked out and the next thing I know, I'm in a cage. Are you okay? Are your wings still attached?"
"Yeah, I'm okay. My wings are still here, they're just a little sore."
"Well well. Look who's awake. Hey Onyx, how are you? And Mia, I see you're doing fine."
Daniel.
"Let us out!" I screamed.
"Shut up girl. You can't talk. And Onyx, are you ready to see your girlfriend tortured? Because I'm looking forward to it."
Onyx lunged towards Daniel but was caught and thrown backwards by the ankle chain.
"NO!" I cried. "You can't do this. We can work this out." I pleaded.
"I don't think we can." He replied.
He strode towards my cage and unlocked the door. I growled at him.
"Don't touch me!"
"Oh darling, you think you can tell me what to do? Ha. That's hilarious."
Daniel grabbed my hair and pulled, hard.
"Ahh!"
He pulled me out and threw me on the ground. I landed with a hard thud. Daniel reached down and took me by the wrist. He lifted me up and placed me on, what looked like a surgical table. I fought as hard as I could. Scratched his face, kicked his legs. But I couldn't stop him from placing me on the table and strapping me down. I could feel tears stream down my face.
"There we go. That's better now. Don't you think Mia?" Daniel sneered. I looked into his eyes and gasped. They were completely black. I could see the insanity swirling around.
"Stop, please. Let us go. We haven't done anything to hurt you." I pleaded with him.
"Now, there's where you're wrong. You have disrupted our completely perfect society by coming here. The people were happy until you came around. Now, they have come to me. They want you gone. And that is what i'm planning on doing. I just don't want it to be too quick. I want to have fun too." He said cheerfully.
Daniel was insane. There was no humanity left in him, that, I understood. I needed to get out of here. Both of us had too.
"Now. Are we ready to get started? Of course we are!"
He grabbed a needle off of the table next to him. Clinking the glass, he plunged the needle into my arm.
"Oh!" I gasped, startled by the stinging in my arm.
"I just injected you with a concoction I stirred up. Soon, you will feel a burning in your extremities. Then it will spread to your chest and head. I made it so that you feel like your insides are melting."
My eyes widened. Onyx yelled and begged Daniel to stop. Daniel stood by laughing as he organized his tools. I suddenly felt a rush of heat go to my legs.
"Ahh!" The pain was different. I'd never felt anything like it before. It was like being burned at the stake. My skin felt raw and blistered. My hands and feet started to throb. I started to fade in and out of consciousness.
"Alright. I think that's enough for today."
Daniel unstrapped me and threw me into the cage. I banged my head against the bars, but I didn't care. My head was fuzzy from the excruciating pain I went through.
"Mia, baby? Listen to me. We're going to get out of here." Onyx whispered to me. "I'll get us out of here. I promise."
