Chapter 18

It had been a few days since the attack. I was starting to predict another attack, but I didn't want to think about it. Alex and Onyx had been quiet and I wondered what they were thinking. They hadn't spoken a word to each other except for the occasional man grunts. It was getting ridiculous. If we were going to stop these people from taking over, we had to get some team work together. Otherwise, this was going to end up badly.

"So, how about the weather?" I was grasping.

"Mia, c'mon. You think I care about the weather? I care more about how much longer we have until we get revenge." Alex said, cracking his knuckles. 

I glowered at him and Onyx made it so much better by adding, "Well, if you weren't such a slow walker, we would get there faster." 

"Well, excuse me for canvassing the area for you, Onyx. If you weren't so busy checking out your clumsy girlfriends every move, you would've seen that surprise attack before it even happened." Alex sneered. 

Onyx was at Alex's throat before I could blink. "Don't you ever say anything about Mia ever again, you hear me?"

Onyx's knuckles were white as he grabbed Alex's shirt and pushed him away.

"Whoa, man. Chill. I didn't mean anything by it." 

"How about we just keep going? We're going to have to find a clue eventually about where to go." I interjected. Hopefully, they would calm down enough to help me with directions.

"Yeah, okay. We should continue on this path. Hopefully, we'll find something that will lead us right to those bastards." Onyx said calmly, like this whole ordeal had never happened. 

I sighed and took Onyx's hand.

It had been a while and it was getting dark. My feet were getting heavy and I kept tripping on hidden roots. Onyx had offered to carry me, but I refused. But now, I thought I might reconsider his offer. Before I could, Onyx announced that we would stop for the night and continue on in the morning. Plopping down on the ground, I dragged Onyx to the ground with me. 

I could hear Alex shuffling to his own spot on the ground. I grabbed Onyx's head and kissed his ears and face. 

"Babe, I don't think this is the right spot for this. Not with Alex right over there. I don't want him to see things he shouldn't see." I laughed and continued to tease him. Feeling brave, I nibbled on his neck in just the right spot. Onyx groaned and shifted his weight so he was on top of me. 

"Mmmm." I moaned, grinding my hips against his. 

"I'm still protesting to this, Mia. Not that I don't want to. It's just Alex. He's always a bother. 

"Hey, less talking more kissing."

We gradually kissed less and fell asleep. Onyx hugged me to him and I fell into a deep sleep.

"What do you think we should do with them? I think they are the wanted kids. Elizabeth wants them."

I mumbled and started to get up, but stopped when I didn't recognize the voice. I didn't think Onyx was awake and I didn't know where Alex was. I held my breath and hope they would leave us alone, but if this Elizabeth wanted us, I figured we'd have to fight our way out of here. 

The voice continued saying, "We'll get a fortune for returning them. There's only two of them, but we'll still get the cash."

That meant Alex either knew about them or was already gone, hopefully, he had a plan. And how was Onyx not awake yet. I tried to nudge him without alerting our potential captors. 

He groaned and turned slightly. 

"Onyx..." I whispered. "Wake up!"

"I'm up. What's happening?"

"Oh look at that. We have a live one boys!" The voice yelled and I heard laughter echo throughout the forest. 

That was not good. Our cover was blown. I stood up and got into a fighting stance. We weren't going to be taken if I had anything to do with it. 

"Leave us alone!"I shouted.

"Whoa, she's feisty. I bet she'll be even better in bed."

Before they knew it, Onyx's fist was in the first guys face. Blood spurted from his nose and he stumbled back. 

"Get them!" He roared at his friends. 

I snapped out my wings and tried to take off but one of the men tackled me before I could get off the ground. He wrapped wire around my wings and pulled. I could feel my wings become numb as the blood flow was cut off. There was no way I'd be able to fly with this wire on them. Onyx wasn't looking better as he was on the ground handcuffed being pushed into the dirt by four men. 

"We got ourselves a feast tonight men. Let's go return them to Elizabeth."

What were we going to do now?
