Part 1 Chapter 7

The second he pulled into the parking lot of the bowling alley he could see Emily. She was leaning against the wall near the entrance, her jeans lung low on her hips and her white shirt made her appear tan. He stubbornly told himself she did not look good in anyway, but it barely worked (though he admitted to himself he liked it when she looked paler).

"Hey!" she said with an excited voice, moving to wrap her arm around his waist in a quick one armed hug. He didn't really hug her back (okay, he was sulking a little bit). "You ready to go in, I'm actually really excited, I haven't gone bowling in years!"

"Yeah, we've been teamed with Jayden and Mandy, so hopefully we'll be fine." He was not amused at being paired with Jayden, he didn't understand why he didn't join a team of his three other dude friends he went out with every Friday night but he seemed convinced that him and Griffin were the best of buddies. At least Mandy was there, she was nice and as he said, he thought her and Emily would get along splendidly.

"What team are we?" she asked once they were inside.

"Four." He said, as he was handed two pairs of bowling shoes. "We are paired with Jayden, he's in the cubicle next to me, and Mandy, she works a few floors above me but her friend's on the other side of my department so she's around a lot, they hand by the water cooler a lot." He elected against telling Emily that he despised Jayden for no good reason, she could make her own judgments.

Mandy was already there and he enthusiastically introduced the two in guilty hopes that she would distract Emily enough that she wouldn't be weighing on Griffin's conscious for the rest of the night. They got along rather splendidly but Emily still hovered around Griffin while they waited for the nearly-late Jayden to show up and get them started at the assigned beginning time.

He turned up 3 minutes before they were set to start,

"Hey, Mandy, Griff-my-man, girl-I-don't-know." He said as greeting, turning the end to a flirtatious tone. Griffin sighed internally.

"Jayden, this is Emily."

"Hello, Emily." He said with a sturdy handshake and a seductive smile.

Griffin wanted to stab himself in the forehead but luckily they were called for the first bowler to step forward and Emily was unable to respond.

Their team came second last.

His second attempt at asking her out was 3 days later, sitting in their normal table, sipping their normal coffees.

"So, you wanna go out sometime." He asked, yet again at the very end of their half hour meeting. "Or something..." awkwardly trailing off.

"Oh, yeah! For sure!" and he perked slightly, "Like for drinks or something? Cause there's this new bar opened up that looks really cool."

He had been hoping for a restaurant that would be more private and intimate, but if she was so open to it he would jump for any sort of date. They scheduled it for that Friday night.

He was ready, he was prepared and he was somewhat exited. He was dressed rather casually, considering they were going to a bar and after her refusal to allow him to drive her Griffin was planning to meet her there, this time he arrived first.

She arrived 10 minutes after their original meeting time, apologising detractingly before they headed inside.

He ordered a drink, she ordered a drink, he went to pay for both, she laughed.

"You want to pay, that's so cute, almost like a date." She said with a laugh as she handed over a note and received several coins in change.

Griffin's stomach dropped.

The night only got worse from there.
