Part 2 Chapter 1
It had been a bit of a culture shock for both of them. Raven was being practically introduced to this magical world and for Griffin it was simply that over the last six years he had grown so used to digging around for his keys instead of using his wand to accio them that he wasn't used to being a Black anymore. But that was what he was again, his parent's son, one of the Golden Quartet that had taken down Voldemort and had spent his first shot as his seventh year on the run with Harry Potter.
It had been basically the first thing that came back to him as he tried to book them into a room at The Three Broomsticks, both him and Raven with only one suitcase each, already making the use of his ability for an undetectable expansion charm.
"Griffin Black?!" Someone behind the counter said as he filled in the guest book, his head snapping up on its own accord. Behind the counter was Madam Rosmerta, looking much older than when Griffin had last seen her but her eyes still sparkled. She came around for a hug which made him feel pretty weird because he had only ever talked to her to order, but his father had mentioned that he used to chat with her on his Hogsmeade weekends.
"And you must be little Raven!" she said, fussing over Raven.
When they got free a few minutes later Griffin's stomach felt heavy, he knew why she had come over. He had money on the fact that Fira, Molly and Aunt Jasmine would know him and Raven were back within the hour.
He had to warn Raven. So he sat her down and began to explain the family to her, which he had never done before.
"You're gonna meet a lot of people, probably very soon." He said softly, guiding to sit her down on one of the two small beds.
"Hm." She hummed, prompting him to continue.
"Well, hopefully you'll meet Harry, Hermione and Ron pretty soon. They were my best friend when I was at school."
"You've mentioned them a couple of times." She said,
"I have?"
"You told me once I was as smart as Hermione was when she was in 3rd year." She said with a small smile, "I took it as a compliment."
"I assure you it was." He said with a small chuckle. "Ron and Hermione were dating when I was last around them I...I don't know if they are still together." He trailed off for a second before hurrying to continue past the nostalgia he was feeling. "There will be my-well not my cousin, we aren't related; but that's what we called each other. Her name's Fira and there's Draco. He's an asshole. Though he did clean up his act once he started dating Fira, I don't know if they are still dating." He cleared his throat awkwardly, "Fira's parents, who were our parents best friends, had twins called Amelia and Leon but they're even younger than you, I don't-" and he that was when he cut himself off.
"Let me guess, you don't know how they are?" she asked, eyebrows raised, a slight smirk gracing her lips.
It was then that he crumbled. He leaned forwards, planting his elbows on his knees and burrowing his face in his hands, rubbing his eyes.
It was the first time Raven had seen him like this and it made her realize how chewed up he was about what was happening to her at school, how worried and exhausted he was about this change, about making sure she was okay. She was almost tempted to tell him about how the teachers had gotten worse because she had kept correcting them like the little shit she was and how all of her friends had gone and made friends with the bullies who stole her lunch and took her clothes when she was getting changed for PE. But she didn't.
"God, I only just realised how much harder this was gonna be than I thought. I mean; I knew it was gonna be awkward and hard and I would feel awful, but I think the closer I'll get to them all again the more I'm going to every regret leaving." Said Griffin, his voice muffled by his hands, but Raven still understood. "If they let me get close again."
Raven was about to talk, about to tell him she was sure he would become super close with them all again when a silver light streamed into the room, creating an odd looking horse animal, making Raven squawk in shock and jump back. Griffin knew exactly what it was, it was Fira's thestral protonus.
They knew.
Sorry for no Thursday update, I'm in the middle of exam block.
