Part 1 Chapter 4
On Monday Griffin started his day earlier, dropping Raven off to before school care for the first time in months a full half an hour before she usually arrived at school (which meant that she had to get up a full half an hour earlier and she had sulked about that all car ride). He then speedily drove home to drop the car off before catching a bus 25 minutes before he usually did.
He also got to Bean There 25 minutes earlier then he usually did.
Emily had mentioned her shift to Raven while Griffin had been answering a work call on his cell, she probably didn't realise that he caught what she was saying. So he was here, several minutes before her shift ended, though he couldn't see her at the moment.
He wasn't doing it to be creepy (at least he didn't think so).
He sat at a table with his coffee and the complimentary paper in the stand by the door (purposely not picking table number 5).
Emily ended her early shift and spent several minutes pulling on her scarf and coat and saying goodbye to everyone else on shift (even that bitch Adrienne she didn't like and Cooper who made horrible sexual innuendos). She made her way to the door, but she spotted the man who came in one the weekend. The quiet, weird one who she believed was named Griffin, the one with the cute daughter.
She had made his coffee several times and had sat down with him, she deemed it appropriate to say hello, always eager to expand her social network.
"Hey, Griffin." She says hesitantly. His head snapped up from his paper, his eyes taking a moment to focus on her.
"Hi."
"Can I-uh... sit?"
"Sure." He said back, pulling his stuff closer to him to make her side clearer.
"So...you're in early." She said awkwardly while perching herself on the edge of her seat. She was usually confident and open with everyone, but Griffin felt different to her.
"Had an early meeting that was cancelled." It was the story he had come up with on the bus there.
"Ugh..." she says, pulling a sympathetic face, "That sucks!" she said, trying to open up to him more.
"Yeah." He said with a small smile, trailing off.
But she persisted and started the conversation up again, getting Griffin into a talking mood. And they chatted, they laughed and shared foolish stories.
They seemed to get along well, Emily noted, mentioning it to Griffin. She didn't realised his heart beat faster with that he thought maybe, just maybe there was a chance.
Eventually Griffin had to leave as to make it to work in time, he told her as much.
"Oh, okay." She said, sounding a bit put out. "It's been great though, you should come in early again tomorrow." She said cheerfully, packing up and rearranging herself ready to leave. Griffin's heart sped up slightly, his breath shuttered, she didn't notice.
"Ah, sure." He said dumbly in a failed attempt to act casual. "What time does your shift and tomorrow?"
"Oh, the same time. I have shifts at the same time for this week and next and then I change again." She explained as she awkwardly shoved her arms into her jacket.
"Oh, cool." Griffin responded for the lack of a better response.
"Yeah anyway, see you tomorrow." She said heading towards the door, and then as an afterthought threw, "See if you can bring your daughter some time, she's funny."
He tried to correct her misconception but she was already gone.

When he tried to ask her out on Thursday it was met with refusal.
Well, sort of.
The rejection-ish thing will be explained and witnessed in the next chapter.
