The car ride to school couldn't have been more awkward. I was so nervous to go back to school, and my mom knew that very well. When we turned off onto the street my school was on, my mom grabbed my hand. I was shaking and I didn't realize. I was so caught up in what had happened this summer, and what might happen the rest of this year. We pulled up to the front of the school, and my mother looked at me. I fiddled with my seat belt, not wanting to look up or leave the car. I just wanted to go home. I can't be here anymore. I looked up at my mom and she gave me a sympathetic smile. "It'll be alright sweetie, I promise. Just promise me you'll do your best?" I nodded my head. I knew it wasn't going to be alright. That was easy to guess. "Okay, well get going silly! You don't want to be late for class!" "God forbid I'm late to Math class." I muttered under my breath. My mom and I said our goodbyes and I started walking to the main entrance of school. I saw my old friend, Alexis, talking to two other girls. As I walked by I gave a friendly wave and a smile. Alexis saw, but she just looked away. So the avoidance begins. Just great. I walked right to my locker I was given. Locker 122. I wonder who's near me. And if they feel the same way about me as everyone else. I put some stuff in my locker to decorate it. Some posters and inspirational quotes. I wanted it to be the closest thing to home, since I can't be there instead of here. I got my Math book out and headed to class. When I walked in, almost everyone was in their seats. But it was if they had seen some kind of strange animal, because when I walked in, they all got quiet. And they whispered. And they talked. And they looked at me. I sat close to the back in the corner. There was a girl in front of me, and no one to the right of me. The girl in front of me, I think her name was Amber, dropped her pen on the floor. I reached to pick it up, and when I held it out to her, she gave me a disgusted look and said "Thanks.". Yeah cause that totally didn't hurt at all. The teacher walked in, and everyone got quiet. He started role call, and the moment I said here, someone whispered "Unfortunately." anndd the majority of the kids giggled. That's nice. "Looks like everyone's here, except for.." he looked down at his attendance sheet again "Dylan Hyde. Does anyone know where he is?" kids shook their head and looked around. Maybe that's why there was an empty seat. I never heard of him, so I'm guessing he was new. "No?" the teacher started. "Maybe he'll be here tomorrow." The teacher started introducing himself, and the guidelines for class. Basically all that boring stuff. About fifteen minutes into the class, the door opened. A tall blonde boy walked in. "And who might you be?" our teacher asked. "I'm Dylan Hyde. Sorry I was late, I missed the bus this morning." the boy replied. He had a deep raspy voice. "That's alright, there's a seat in the back near Natalie, you may sit there." "Thanks." Dylan said, his voice just above a whisper. I was writing in my notebook, when I looked up and saw Dylan's eyes fixed on me as the teacher told him where to sit. There was something in his eyes. I don't know what it was, but it was intimidating, yet soft. Dylan made his way to the back of the classroom, and sat down next to me. I didn't pay much mind to him. He'd probably end up hating me too. The class seemed to go on forever. I looked out the window at the cars going by, and the graceful birds in their nest in a tree. Every thing looked so peaceful. I came back to reality when I heard Dylan's raspy voice. "Hi Natalie."
