Amazing Grace- Chapter 9

We were sitting on the couch watching a movie. Jake had his arms around me and my head was resting on his chest. I suddenly thought of something and abruptly turned around, but being as stupid as I was, forgot we were on a couch and I fell off. Just as I was about to hit the ground, big strong arms snaked around my waist and pulled me back up.

"Easy there grace, I know your eager to bow at my feet every chance you get, but you don't have to go injure yourself while doing it." Jake teased.

"Shut up." I smacked him on the chest playfully and tried to hide my smile.

Jake just laughed. "So what is the real reason why you almost fell off the couch?"

I got myself comfortable in a sitting cross-legged position and faced Jake. "I wanted to know about your past. We haven't talked about that yet and I thought if were really going to end up spending eternity together then I kind of want to know everything about my mate."

"Everything?" Jake raised his eyebrows.

"Everything." I nodded.

"Well what do you want to know first?"

"Why don't you go from the start.”

"I thought we already talked about this?"

"We did, but you didn't tell me about your past or anything. All I know about your past is that you have a twin sister and a psycho girl who was obsessed with you to the point where just the sight of her gave you the creeps."

"Well, I've lived in Australia all my life. I was born in Perth and now I'm living here in South Australia with you." He paused. "Where did you come from?"

"Well I'm from Australia too. I was born in Melbourne. We used to live in America for a bit then we came back because my dad got transferred again. He was a car dealer." A wave of sadness washed over me as I thought of my dad. I miss him so much. "Melbourne isn't far from here actually." As I thought of where we were. It was about a day or two away by car. Maybe three. Wouldn't make a bad road trip either.

Suddenly there was a knock at the door.

"I'll get it." Jake said, getting up. "You stay here, if there's people after you then they can't find out your here."

"I'm coming with you Jake, what if that's them right now?" I gestured to the door. Jake glanced at the door uneasily.

"I'll get it but you stay right at my side alright? I want to make sure I can keep an eye on you." I didn't want to push it so I grasped his hand and pulled him to the door. Just as he was about to open it, he used his arm to gently push me behind him. "I don't want you to get hurt." He said.
