Amazing Grace- chapter 13

The heard footsteps coming from inside the house. I looked at Jake nervously. He gave me a warm smile and squeezed my hand in a comforting gesture. 

I hope he likes me. I also hope that he doesn't look at me too much because when I dye my hair and put in my contacts in the morning, I'm going to look totally different. I would put the stuff on now but I need water and stuff for the hair. 

The porch lights flicked on and I watched nervously as the doorknob turned. 

The door swung open and revealed a tall, slightly buff looking guy, about our age, looking at us with a surprised expression. He had dirty blond hair that was sticking out wildly in a few places but looked good. He was about the same height as Jake so I came up to about just passed his shoulders. He was wearing some baggy jeans and a plain green t-shirt, and bare feet. I looked up into his face. He had a crooked nose, a strong jaw line and thin lips. His big bluish-grey eyes were staring at me, trying to figure out who I was. He then pointed his gaze at my hand that was entwined with Jakes. 

Overall Ashton looked pretty cute but not as cute as y Jake. Well to me, he wasn't as cute. In my world, Jake is the hottest thing that's ever walked the earth. 

"Hey man! Long time no see!" Ashton broke the silence, a huge smile spreading across his face. He lent his hand out to Jake, which he gratefully took and they shook hands. 

"It's good seeing you too man." Jake gestured to me. "Ashton meet my girlfriend Gr- I mean uhhh...." Jake stopped. We couldn't tell him my real name!

"Eva." I quickly said. It was the first name that popped into my head. "Eva Knightly." 

Jake sent me a grateful smile. "Eva, meet Ashton Carter, my best friend." He finished off.

Ashton stuck his hand out. "It's lovely to meet you m'lady." Ashton winked. Jake growled quietly, but I just laughed. I took his hand and shook it.

"It's an honor Mr Carter." I played along.

Before Ashton could say anything. Jake interrupted. "Sorry Ashton, this is really short notice and all but can we stay at your place for a few days? My house has a big termite problem and we've been asked to 'leave the premises"-He air quoted. "Until they get it fixed. It could take up from a few days to a few weeks and since it was such short notice, we were wondering if we could stay with you for a bit..." Jake swiftly lied to Ashton, but judging by the look in his eye, I could tell he was uncomfortable lying to his best friend.

I feel so awful for making him do this. If it weren't for me, Jake wouldn't be here right now. He would be safe and sound at home, still living a normal happy life with his house in one piece and no bad guys running after him, trying to kill him. Ever since I came along, his whole world has turned upside down.

Maybe I should have left him that first day. If I had done that then he could still be living a happy life right now. But something in the back of my head reminded me that I might not have been able to leave him.

I sighed internally. I can't think of this stuff right now. For now just focus on staying hidden. What's done is done and there's nothing I can do about it anyway.

"Sure man, come on in. You guys want something to eat?" Ashton asked.

"YES!" I blurted out. I slapped my hand over my mouth in embarrassment. They just laughed at me though.
