~A Letter from Jane~
Dear Diary,
I'm sorry I have not written in the last fortnight. Not much has occurred since then; no letters, no visits, no news from Mr. and Mrs. Collins.... But besides that, I must write of today!
This morning was so beautiful! I was up with the rising sun and snatched one of Papa's book of proverbs to read wile I sat in the brush. The fiery sun blazed over the field, it's warmth settling itself over the land inch by inch, causing the fine duo to evaporate from each blade of dark green grass. My fussy, cream colored dress was spread around me, growing slightly damp from the morning duo. Mama would not be pleased with this unladylike posture as I read, flying through the pages that were all to familiar. I had read this so many times before, and copied it in two copying books, making extracts along the way. Today, I just read through the first few chapters. My mind wandered to the luck of my three married sisters, then pondered why Kitty and I had been practically skipped over by this fortune... Oh well, time can only tell if this is the case...
After my watching of the sunrise, I was called in for breakfast. Mama had insisted I eat something, but I did not feel very hungry. Was I excited? If so, for what? I practiced a few songs I had been learning on our piano until mama and Kitty hushed me simultaneously. They have no taste in fine music!
Mama was taking Kitty and I to Meryton to buy a few new things, bonnets and such which have no appeal to me. I asked to stay home, to write, and practice the piano in the silence of their absence. Now I am happy I did!
Hill, our butler, delivered a letter from Jane, addressed to me personally, informing me of her and Mr. Bingley's coming to visit. My heart practically leaped out of my chest! My beloved sister was coming for a visit! and she declared she had exciting news!
I must go for now, but until again,
Mary
