I looked at the beautiful sky and the water reflecting against it, and my jaw dropped open, as my heart started to jump out of its place.
I stared, open-mouthed at the beauty unraveled in front of me. All my doubts and fears flew out the window as I saw where I was. A huge smile erupted from my mouth and I screeched, turning to look at the side and sighing, furthermore looking at the beautiful water glowing with the moon. It was an ethereal sight, a sight I wished to drown in, to store in my heart forever, a sight that captivated me like no other.
The moon was at its brightest, at its biggest, and the water, the water was as clear as day, reflecting the bright moon's light as if it was a part of the moon, itself.
"It can't be real. It's too beautiful to be real." I whispered, taking a small step backward.
Rehan's hand grasped mine, and I turned around to look at him, his dark green eyes being reflected by the light of the moon, making them even brighter. His eyes were glaring into mine as his other hand took mine, dropping the basket so that both of our hands were together, while he whispered. "I know. It's like a dream." I smiled at him, nodding.
"This is a dream, a dream that we're living, right here, in this magical setting." Our words whispered, yet unrushed. It was is if we wanted to take our time, stay with each other, in a calm and long journey.
Our eyes stayed on each other, as he dropped one of my hands, yet kept the other one in his hand, and we walked forward, with him still holding the basket. We settled after he put the blanket on the sand, and I helped him with the other side. I sat next to him, and he came down to sit next to me, and we sat in a comfortable silence, just thinking. Our heads were both looking forward as our hands stayed together, as if we couldn't let our hands separate.
I thought about how lucky I was, to have this, this moment, that truly felt like a dream.
I suddenly had the urge to sit back and relax my head on his shoulders and I snapped the thought back down.
Too soon? Too soon.
But as my head started to clear out, my heart did what it wanted, and my head slowly came down to rest on Rehan's shoulder.
I felt him tense, and instantly lifted my head up, jerked out of the moment by his sudden tensing, turning beetroot at my stupidity. I looked away and muttered a small sorry, to which he took an intake of breath and then sighed, before grabbing my hand again, and softly pulling me back. His arms wrapped around my shoulder as he allowed my head to rest on his shoulder once again.
"Hey, your allowed to do whatever you want, ok? You just took me by surprise that's all." His soft words melted my heart as I nodded, looking up at him and smiling a little, my cheeks still red and my heart still trying to calm down. I took a deep breath and sighed, his arms around me feeling like a warm protection.
We stayed like that for a few minutes, before he took his hand out of mine and opened the basket. He brought out some local Halal takeout and I smiled. Biryani on the beach.
After I helped him put the food into plates, we started eating, talking about random stuff.
"So is Zaki ok?" I asked.
"Well, he's under observation. That's why he wasn't here during the Nikah. Hopefully in a few days, he will be released."
"Are you coming tomorrow? To the hospital I mean?" He nodded.
"I might even stay the night, and the next two nights. His parents have to work. They have been taking too many days off and their bosses are starting to get irritated. "
