Gabriella nibbled on the hospitals breakfast toast. It wasn't surprising that it was horrible, but it was enough to get her by until she sprung herself out of here later today. She wondered how her daughter was and how her night had gone. Gabriella knew she had probably scared Kali to death and she wasn't quite sure what to say to her when they saw each other again. How could she explain her actions without making herself seem like a complete nut? Though she was sure Kali already thought something along those lines.
She shook her head, as if shaking the thoughts from her mind. "It'll workout, don't worry."
"Do you talk to yourself a lot?" A deep voice taunted.
Gabriella dropped her toast. "What are you doing here?!"

The day went by fairly quickly. Kali was already on her way to her seventh period class. She yawned.
"I'm so tired." She mumbled. Right when she was about to turn into her history class something caught her eye. A tall boy about her age was leaning against the lockers. He had sleek black hair that hung a few inches past his shoulders. His skin was fair and covered by dark black skinny jeans, that were noticeably tight, and a black long sleeved shirt. She guessed his height would be between 5'9 and 5'10, a tleast three inches taller than her. She had never seen him around school before, but in a way he blended in better than she did. The bell wouldn't ring for about a minute and she was curious, so she walked over to the stranger.
"Are you new?" She asked. "I've never seen you before."
"I guess." His voice was as smooth as silk being pressed to her ears. It sent a chill up Kali's spine.
"W-well. Can I help you find a class?" She offered.
"No, that's okay. Thanks." The stranger said dryly and turned to walk away from her. A sense of rejection filled her throat. She wasn't even asking him on a date, what was his problem? She grabbed his wrist without thinking.
"You're not even going to tell me your name?" She scowled.
He turned his head slightly, giving her a glimpse of his deep dark eyes. "Nova."
Stunned, Kali dropped her hand and watched him walk away. There was something odd about his eyes.
"Come on Kali or I'm giving you a tardy." Mr. Harbor, the history teacher, called from the doorway of her next class. Kali hadn't even noticed that the bell rang. She walked in the room and took her usual seat dropping her books on the desk. A sudden movement in her peripheral vision caught her attention. She turned to see Lily waving at her.
"Hey!" The girl mouthed. Kali couldn't help but stare at the bright pink lipstick that adorned her pout. It complimented her complexion flawlessly and Kali let out a inner sigh.
"Hey," she mouthed back with a lighthearted smile.
"Remember, this project is due in three weeks," Mr. Harbor instructed as he passed out information packs around the class. "I want you to really dig into your family's history. Give me all the good stuff and include everything you can on your family tree. I gave you the option of having partners so you could relate and connect with your peers. Who knows, maybe some of you share an ancestor?"
Kali groaned and chewed on her bottom lip as she looked over the packet. She didn't like the idea of having to do a family tree, especially with her.. situation. It would force her into having to ask about her father, something she never wanted to do. Could she get a pass for only having a mother?
With a small ounce of bravery, Kali raised her hand. "Mr. Harbor?"
"What is it?" The man turned to face her, his eyes curious behind his thick framed glasses. He definitely had the "history teacher" look to him.
